I was checking my shafts today because my capac readings are .85 and I noticed that the shaft insulators are there but they have steel washers on the tranny side of the coupling. Does anyone know where I can buy the fiber washers that are supposed to be there? Is there a torque spec for these bolts?

Nylon flat washers. Aany good hardware store sells them. Get 3/8 size--they fit tighter.

I used the fiber washers for oil pan drain plugs.

Well, John never sent me the washers so I took Jeff's advice and bought the nylon ones at Home Depot. I installed them and my readings went from .85 to .95. Thanks for all of your help guys....

I just re-read your original post and, if I'm not mistaken, only one side of the flange needs to be isolated. Depending on which side the isolator/insulator unit is positioned (and if they can be positioned either way). Obviously, if your Capac readings improved, the extra washers are needed so good deal. My experience with a shaft being grounded to the hull, the Capac readings suffered more severely than .1 volt, which may be an indication that something else might be improperly grounded... but again your readings improved so my analysis is probably flawed. Anyway, just thoughts.

You are correct, the fiber washers only need to be on one side of the bolt that goes through the flange. Mine had steel washers on the bolt head side and steel lock washers on the other side..
