The Edelbrocks have electric chokes. Let the boat sit about 5 minutes and the choles start to close down while the motor is still fully up to temperature. That creates a rich condition that takes extra cranking. The old Carters used a different system and didn't do that nonsense--their only good feature.

Next time they do that to me I'm going to turn the ignition on and leave it on for a minute or so. That will warm the choke bimetalic strip back up and open the fool things!

My Mercruiser has a selnoid operated electric choke that is in line with an engine block switch that opens when warm. Have not had problems...yet.

I like that idea. Another thing for the ever-growing to-do list.

Looking for a source of power for my edlebrock electric chokes. Looked for power at alternator output....constant pwr from battery at terminal...Looked for power at field wire on alternator and voltage regulator...power is too low because it runs about 6 to 9 volts.. I need a full 12 volts plus with ignition switch only. I do not have a resistor for ignition....at least I have never seen one d'oh!

1) Any of you guys with 1985 or later have resistors?

2) What is the power source for your electric chokes...if you have them?

3) Guess I could tap into Electronic ignition control module wire???? Not sure if there is a full 12 volts there somewhere.

I've seen a thread on this before, just can't find what I'm looking for.

You bet, and even with high performance 12 volt coils.

2) What is the power source for your electric chokes...if you have them?

I used the wire that sends juice TO (not from) the ballast resistor.

3) Guess I could tap into Electronic ignition control module wire???? Not sure if there is a full 12 volts there somewhere.

Same power source.

Jeff

I must be blind because I can't find a ballast resistor.

Where should it be in relation to the starter solenoid? Here's a pic...do you see where it should be?

If you have one it's on the opposite side [stern] of the plate the solenoid is on. Should have 4 prongs and be inbetween the regulator and the ECU.
