Years ago I had a '65 Plymouth Sport Fury with the 440 wedge-head and a close-ratio 4-speed. What a great engine!

My granddad had a 28' Chris Craft with a pair of 440s as a fishing boat. It did an honest 50 knots.

Do you know what size prop this monster is using?

That should fly.

I am curious as to what is the fastest Marinette that has been done. I have heard of some with pumped up SBC's that got kind of squirrely at high speed.

My 28' made a couple of runs at 55 mph, even before I put the engine into it.

You guys should write for 'Saturday Night Live".

Actually, I think John Hall holds the Marinette speed record with 40 mph in his old 32 footer (with Marine Power 215 hp SB Chevies). He said it was a "bit squirrelly" at that speed.

PS: No dogs were killed during or after last night's Eagles game by the back up quarterback or his "homies". Progress!

With my twin 250's I still can't do more than 20 knots (23 mph).
How was John able to hit that speed in a 32 footer with only a pair of 215's?

That boat had 5.7L 315hp engines in it. 630 hp total. 40 mph might be stretching it but definitely over 35 mph lightly loaded. It was too fast for the hull though. Center of Lift would move aft of CG and boat would "fall" to one side unless you balanced it like a race boat. Seemed like about 28 knots (32 mph) was the top "comfortable" cruise speed.

Why did you load your 32' backwards on a trailer and why in heavens sack would you let anyone drive that fast pulling you boat?

-Why did you load your 32' backwards on a trailer?

That's how this company did it to get it as low as possible in the trailer. His setup was pretty slick (didn't have to remove the flybridge or the props)

-why in heavens sack would you let anyone drive that fast pulling you boat?

The driver held it down around 60 mph for most of the trip. I was confident he was going to get the boat there safe and he did. This is what he does for a living and it looked like to me that he was good at it.

Loading it backwards on the trailer sure beat having to take off the flybridge. Best part about the whole thing was that I caught him on a return trip after he just got done dropping off a couple of boats so his price was very reasonable.

That was 315 hp--not 215-- on John's old boat. Sorry for the confusion.

My 32 can do 70 also but I have to go under the boat and spin the little speed wheel by hand. d'oh!

I think the speed record for a Marinette has been broken by a 1976, 37' sedan. 48mph with twin Crusader 496ci engines. He is docked across from me. Boat sounds awesome and the torque is amazing.
Yes, the steering does gets squirrelly at those speeds since there is virtually no hull in the water.

He says those 496 actually are more efficient than the 360 Chryslers in our 32's. He ran with several boats this summer and he did better than a 32 with the 360s.
The boat was re-shafted and re-propped along with new transmissions. Also had to cut the exhaust holes bigger in the transom. I have yet to get a ride but I'm working on it!
