Advance timming tip:

After reading numerous post over the years and with so many things to keep track of here is a tip which helped my boat.

Are your RPMs not up to par and everything looks good?

I found the following helps.
1. Spring and mid season lubricate your distribs especially the advance springs.
2. Grab the rotor firmly and work the advance. You might be surprised that at first it is hard to advance and then will get easier and smoother.(Rust locking up advance springs)

By doing this I picked up 400rpms at WOT.

safe boating,
dave

It's not "too fast" if the advance returns to where it should be at idle. Car engines are sensitive to too much advance, but not marine engines.

Another distributor trick: Pull the rotor and drip a few drops of motor oil on the shafts below it before working the advance a bunch of times.
