I would like to purchase a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor model 17086115 which was used on the Chrysler LM318 engines in my 1988 Marinette 32. The model number is stamped on the carburetor housing. Anyone have one? New-old-stock preferred; used OK if rebuildable. Thanks!! Floyd

Thanks Tim,

Can you read the numbers stamped vertically on the throttle-linkage side of the carburetor? They are usually just above the shaft that controls the secondary throttle plates (large ones). The are numbers like 17080563 or 17086115. Thanks, Floyd

Usually, there's a small red tag bolted to the carb via a bolt holding the top on.

You might want to make sure you get a marine carb. The auto versions have way too many vacum lines on them.

I have a problemsome Rochester that at idle one throat does not seem to be getting the gas it needs. It runs well after warmed up so I am just using it till summer plays itself out, then I will need to figure what is going on.

Instead of the Q-Jet, you could replace it with a NEW Edelbrock 1409. They sell an adapter to mount the 1409 on a Q-Jet manifold. Amazon.com has about the best price for the carb.

Thanks Jeff and others for the additional information. I really want to get the exact same carburetor that is on my LM318 so I can rebuild it this winter and have it as a spare next spring. The boat (with carbs) is on the Erie Canal and I am in Virginia. I really want to locate a Rochester Quadrajet number 17086115 stamped on the housing as it is on the two I already have. If anyone can help me get this particular Quadrajet, I would appreciate it. If all else fails I have the Edelbrock and rebuilt options as you have pointed out. Thanks, Floyd

Thanks Tim. I have a 17080560 I bought on eBay but it is somewhat banged up due to poor packing. I wonder how it differs from the 17086115 I have. I know that both are marine carbs. Do you happen to know what the differences are? My 17086115s are on LM318BWL15s in my 1988 Marinette 32 FB Thanks again, Floyd

That man is wrong! Auto carbs are not made to flood inwardly. Huge difference.

Hi Tim!

When you put the Edelbrock carb on your Marinette's LM318 was it a direct fit with no linkage or plumbing changes? Does the Edelbrock have the same automatic choke mechanism? (I suspect not and I am wondering what it takes to make the change).

The 17086115 and 17080563 look alike and are both marine carburetors. Do you know if your 17080563 was the carburetor supplied originally with your Marinette's LM318?

You mentioned that you might have preferred to keep the Rochester Qjet instead of the Edelbrock. What makes you think the Qjet works better? All I know is that my 17086115's work great and I want to keep them if I can. Perhaps I can put a 17080563 on the engine while I rebuilt the 17086115, but I will have to assure myself that the 17080563 will work on the LM318.

Thanks for your patience, Floyd

i changed from from afb's. i had 1977 motors someone before me put in the 1972 boat. one of them was shot so i bought a 86/87 motor the quad was on it.the man i got it from gave me the original carb i don't know if i have it ,but i think it is shot.i used the afb then later had problems.and changed to a Edelbrock 1409.the change was just fuel line and added the pvc port(jeff or one of the others here told me how)you will need an adaptor plate i didn't.that and your wedge together will be alittle high.

i'm sure the good carb i have is not the original.but is a marine carb.

i have had a lot of quads on chevys in boats and cars and never had a problem unless some one monkeys with them.but with rebuilds you never know what you will get.

Hi Tim!

Glad you found it! I would like to try to rebuild it so I will take you up on your offer. I am at ZIP 22482. Please send me email at 2sailors (at) verizon.net to let me know the shipping costs and how you want me to pay them.

Please use a box that is about 2" or more larger than the carb on all sides in figuring the shipping cost. I really appreciate your help. Any help I can give you?

Thanks, Floyd
