i changed from from afb's. i had 1977 motors someone before me put in the 1972 boat. one of them was shot so i bought a 86/87 motor the quad was on it.the man i got it from gave me the original carb i don't know if i have it ,but i think it is shot.i used the afb then later had problems.and changed to a Edelbrock 1409.the change was just fuel line and added the pvc port(jeff or one of the others here told me how)you will need an adaptor plate i didn't.that and your wedge together will be alittle high.
i'm sure the good carb i have is not the original.but is a marine carb.
i have had a lot of quads on chevys in boats and cars and never had a problem unless some one monkeys with them.but with rebuilds you never know what you will get.

The 17086115 and 17080563 look alike and are both marine carburetors. Do you know if your 17080563 was the carburetor supplied originally with your Marinette's LM318?
You mentioned that you might have preferred to keep the Rochester Qjet instead of the Edelbrock. What makes you think the Qjet works better? All I know is that my 17086115's work great and I want to keep them if I can. Perhaps I can put a 17080563 on the engine while I rebuilt the 17086115, but I will have to assure myself that the 17080563 will work on the LM318.
Thanks for your patience, Floyd
