Hi guys. I've got a small rudder leak & was doing my homework on past rudder topics & have a question. My rudders have a greese fitting (32 ft 73 express). In looking at Jeff's picks I don't see one. Do I have something strange? Thanks, Wayne

Mine doesn't have a grease fitting. Sorry. Note that you can tighten hell out of rudder stuffing boxes to get them to stop leaking, unlike the prop shaft ones.

I replaced the packing on mine with seals from auto parts store. Used three seals to take up space so that packing nut would tighten down & hold in place. Standard O D for my shaft size was about 0.005 small, so used a little silicone to seal up. Has not leaked a drop in 2 seasons. My rudder shafts are 1" Seal #s are on board, I can get #s if some one needs them. I think I posted them on here somewhere.

Thanks, guys. I will try to tighten it up. Will tie a rope around my foot so someone can pull my ass out after I get stuck in there. Wayne

Mine also has a hose clamp around the packing nuts. Doesn't look professional. Maybe that is before they drilled a hole put a carter key in them like Jeff's picks. Wayne
