Doc, I just acquired a set of Bennett trim tabs and was looking at your pictures of you anti-fouling paint test. You mounted the tabs to the trailing edge of the welded tabs we have that stick out 4".

How did you account for that extra 4" and the travel of the cylinders? It looks like you may have moved the cylinder mount on the tab forward to the middle of the tab instead of on the trailing edge where they want to be. Please share a little of your vast expirence with us.

Can’t take credit for the trim tabs mounting that’s the way they where when I bought the OTM so I’m not sure if that’s manufacture spec. or if previous owner altered them never paid to much attention other than when I’d remove the anodes for cleaning. there are only one set of holes on the tabs that the cylinder mounts to the tab. Here’s about the best pix that I have of the trim tabs HTHs Whistle

When you visit your girl try and measure the length of those cylinders. Mine are about 13" long overall.
I just thought that I might have to block the transom end or make a bracket for the tabs to account for the extra 4" of welded tab. I was very happy to see it might work without mods.

I found a picture that might help. I could take some measurements of the actuators and tabs on SI.

The Tabs on my 1975 37' are the same as Doc's. I BELEIVE its all original. The cylinders are just standard Bennetts. They are mounted without blocks on the transom and about centered on the tab itself.

My 37 BigM double cabin has I think the same trim tabs but with 2 cylinders on each tab.

Moving the mount on the tab forward is what I thought I would have to do BUT that will put more torque on the cylinder, AND I was worried that the tab may bend up aft of the cylinder mount. But since a couple or three of you have been running this way I will forge boldly ahead.

My buddy finally got back at me with the measurements of the cylinder they 13" overall & the
housing is 8 3/4" HTH

Them's is my dimentions.

Now why move the annodes to the SS trim tabs? Why not just leave them on top of the welded tabs on top of the SS hinge plates? The hull is what we are trying to protect and reducing the hulls physical connection to the anodes by placing them out on a hinged SS plate seems counter to the goal.
