(Sorry for spending the day on my alternator questions)

Where are the wires going that come from the alternator? One is connected to the Pos+ terminal on the alternator and I assume it goes to the battery. The other is a smaller, red wire. They lead in the same direction (and, in fact, both go into a larger cable wrap headed under the covered electrical junction behind the alternator). What is the smaller one?

If the larger, orange wire goes to the battery, where does it tie to the much larger red positive wire that is connected to the battery itself?

The alternator output MUST go right to the battery or smoke will come from gages and other 12 volt items. (Don't ask!) On Chryslers, the red wire goes to the starter solenoid's battery cable terminal.
