Does anyone have a magneto for the old Kohler 7.5 A27 generator, or know of a possible source.
This is a great generator when it runs right, got to get it purring again. The model # is XF-4F-448

I had that same genset. My Kohler parts manual says that part number is A-241366.
Like many Wisconsin tractor and motorcycle manufacturers (Harley Davidson), Kohler used magnetos made by Fairbanks Morse in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Many of the internal parts are interchangeable. Rather than trying to find a used or rebuilt mag, you might want to try to
identify and replace the faulty subpart. These magnetos contain the coil, points, condenser, rotor and distributor cap.
Typically, the condenser will fail or the coil windings will burn out or the points will wear out. Replacing just a faulty
coil, points or condenser might be faster and a lot cheaper.

Try this site: www.magnetoparts.com

There is a service guide posted there for a much earlier mag but it is similar or identical to the inner workings of the mag used on your Kohler.

Do you know what's wrong with the mag?

I have not taken it apart yet. The spark is real weak. Maybe the points just need cleaning and adjustment.

Let me know if you need the parts manual or the engine service manual.
I can e-mail the parts manual and I can scan the magneto pages of the engine service manual.

You'll have bad times, but they'll just wake you up to the good times you weren't paying attention to

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Thanks Norm, I talked to Stan this morning. He said you might part with the Mag. I'll let you know after checking the points and condenser.
