I need to know 1) the distance from the exhaust outlet straight down to the bottom of the transom, 2) how far the trim tab extends behind the transom, and 3) how far the swim platform extends behind the transom. My boat is a '75 32' and is, sadly, about 1400 miles away. If there is a member who has his boat handy, perhaps he could take these measurements for me. I need them to the nearest inch. Thanks.

Here goes:

1) the distance from the exhaust outlet straight down to the bottom of the transom

Not sure, sorry. Looks to be about a foot on mine.

2) how far the trim tab extends behind the transom

About 10 inches

3) how far the swim platform extends behind the transom.

Not enough! (I extended mine.) It's 25 inches, per a drwaing I made, but it curves around with the transom and gets narrower on each side.

PS "1,400 miles"? Hell of a commute.

Thanks Jeff.

Liz has a job up here in DC working with the gummint. I have no job at all. So she had the unreasonable idea that I should come up here. Actually, I was content to be a boat bum in Florida, but then there will be college expenses, etc. for the crew. And, my 401K is now a 201K.

We were going to bring the boat up (I was looking forward to the trip) but marina fees are higher near DC, high enough that we can fly down several times during the winter to use the boat for the same price. Still, it isn't very handy for maintenance - Everyone arrives ready for a fun cruise and not wanting to paint and putter.

How about this fer an idee? (country speak): Bring that beauty North and slip it on the Bay proper. No sense running up and down the Potomac in any case--it's over a hundred miles to the Bay!--and slip fees are more than reasonable OUTSIDE D. C. Hell, you could drive to one of a dozen nearby marinas in less than an hour, and the Chessie is a boater's paradise (not to mention fresh water).

Sumtin' to thunk on a spell.

Darnit,

I was looking for slips for sale near a job I had in Glen Burnie MD before I retired and moved to Michigan. I liked Magothy Marina in Severna Park. I see that prices have doubled in about 7 years. I should have bought then. Make a nice place for long visits on the bay. East of D.C. between Baltimore and Annapolis. Slips might double again in another seven years.

Up Bay (as we call it) the slips are far more reasonable. Not sure I'd like to buy a slip in case I want to move.

Jeff

PS: Dropped the hook on the Magothy last summer to have lunch.

Jeff,

You are right, the Potomac is pretty small here. Still, a lot of people seem to be using it and there are a lot of marinas, all at quite a cost. We drove over to look at the marina in Deale, MD over on the Chesapeake. It is very nice and quite a bit cheaper, but it's about a 90-minute drive. I have been able to spend over a month on board, in two-week chunks, this winter, and I can really use a break from the cold.

The real solution is to get another M to keep up here, then we will have all options. I think I'll ask Liz and see what she says....

Hahahhahahah! I think we all know!

PS: Two of our members slip their Marinettes at Deale--Joel and Loius--so you'd have great company!
