Why does my boat have an inter-tube for a water tank? I would assume this is original equipment. Should I check this thing for leaks and use it if it holds water? it would seem much harder to drain down and winterize verses a plastic one.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

Are asking about a water bladder ? Cause to the best of my knowledge most of the fresh water tanks were aluminum as original equipment at least from the mid 70s on. Possibly the P O had troubles with the tank & replaced it with a bladder type tank. There are a few members that have went that way when their tanks failed. Maybe they can chime in & answer your questions Think

Rob,

In the 70's, use of rubber bladders for water tankage for unusual shape areas was often done. I had a 79 32 foot where the previous owner put a rubber bladder under the v berth for added water capacity to stay out all weekend. It never leaked in the 10 years I had the boat, and I routinely treated it with bleach to sanitize it. If it doesn't leak, then treat it with bleach, drain it and have fun.

I use a 35 gallon bladder tank for my black water. It is installed on the centerline under the cabin sole, next to the head. It has given me no trouble, and has the interesting feature that it needs no separate vent. When the marina sucks the stuff out, the tank goes flat. As the head is used, it gets bigger and bigger until finally it won't work. It is vented through the cap on the pumpout - I drilled a small hole in it and put in a venting filter made of brass.

I plan to put in another bladder in-line under the sole, to hold 30-40 gallons of water. The off-center water tank drives me nuts, and I can use that space for other things.

Me too, except when I shower; the water always goes down that little hole to port.
