Not ready to talk about what happened yet, but the visible crack on one of my engine blocks tells me I am going to be replacing an engine. Would prefer something used, either running or rebuildable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Do yourself a favor and buy a rebuilt long block. Trust me on this! Lots of good deals out there on 318s (that are cheaper than Chevies).

Selecting a supplier for a long block depends on where you live, since it's a truck shipment (kinda heavy!)

I live in PA so I bought mine from a company in 'Jersey (and am pleased with it). Under 2 grand, delivered.

A "long block" consists of a rebuilt engine with heads. (A "short block" lacks the heads.) You need to get heads as well, for they may be cracked as well. You transfer over your intake manifold, timing cover and pulley, distributor, oil pan, etc.

Im with Jeff on the long block thing but if you are a confident builder or have one that will do a rebuild rite that you trust i have a m 318 that came out of a pen yan it has a v drive tranz on it. I used the exaust manifolds off it. it was rebuilt 2 weeks be for it sank at slip pulled out mt ed and pickeled . a year later i got it to rebuild ie you never know when youll need a good block . i dont know what rotation it is but will put up block # tomarow some one on the site should be able to tell me what way it gose. the price I paid was far less than a set of manifolds maby we can work sumptin out but im with jeff changing engin is not some thing you want to be doing every other month to save money I like warenties
