Thinking about putting some poly slides on the bunks of the trailer. The manufacturer says they are OK for a painted bottom. Anyone know better?
Thanks.

I sprayed the carpet on my bunks with silicone lube and now the boat slips off nice and easy.

Here's what I asked the Surfix people and their response:

Hi, just wanted to double check that your poly slides are recommended for painted bottoms. Someone told me not to use them on antifouling bottom painted boats. Please advise. Thanks.

Dennis, it is difficult to say. They are no worse than carpet and provide better sliding ability. The reason for the caution is not knowing the extent of adhesion between the bottom paint and the sub surface. Factory applied gel coat is color impregnated and is difficult to remove. Our glides can be used but it will wear on poorly adhered paint.

Decided to go with the Surfix glides. Installation was simple. Will be using the boat next week so we'll see if they make a difference with launch/retreive.

Slick (in more ways than one). For you folks with carpeted bunks, spraying them with silicon lube spray works wonders.

Only got out a few times last year. Had to work too many weekends. Noticed a big difference at the dock with the new glides. Easier to get off and much easier to pull up on the trailer. Nice.
Inspected the bottom paint during the off season and there isn't any abnormal wear. Glad to have the glides!
