Forgot to mention this....From my old days of porting aluminum heads on race car motors, I learned that dipping a carbide bit in kerosene keeps it clean. Otherwise the bit will clog with smeared aluminum.

Norm...if there is a three day gap, you may have paint adhesion problems (unless the powder coat process is something special apart from straight painting). Is the shop is planning to do a light sanding first? We'd be interested to hear what he says.

Joel,

I’ll ask them ????s & post them Think so far I’ve had no problem with the powder coating some of it’s 5 yr old like the stuff on the cockpit hand rail, the pulit 1 yr plus the last time I seen my 74 down in FL. about 3 yr ago it looked like when I installed them & that was done in the mid 90's . Applause In my guesstimating one can’t paint as cheaply as having it powder coated with all the time & material involved KWIM d'oh!

Joel,

The powder coat guy told me they do use a etching compound on AL. before they apply the coating. I tried to pry the name out of him, he used the old phrase ( I I T U I G K U ) when I go to pick the F/B up in a week or two I’ll try asking one of the workers ??
