Plan on installation of Floscan Twin Scan fuel flow guage and
Lewmar horizontal windlass on the 32' LUNA SEA this month
before splash. Any comments good or bad about these units
would be appreciated.

WHERE did you place the flowmeter? If it's right after a fuel shutoff valve it won't work right--air gets sucked in with the fuel (believe it or not) and it drives the thing nuts. I had to relocate mine before the shut off valve.

i'm interested in hearing about the windlass. i look at that style this spring, i think it was a little under $800. the guy also said new line was reccommended, not the 3 twist as that could twist and kink (i forget the term that kink was called) but the other line was something like 12 strand and kinda anti kink at about $1.50 a foot, so $300 bucks plus new chain 100 bucks. the unit was not free fall.

Three years ago I installed a Lewmar Pro-Fish 700 Windlass. It works very well. It has free fall as well as controlled.

You will need 1/2 8 plait anchor rode and a min. of 15 ft of 1/4 G4 High Strength chain. BBB chain also works but is more expensive.

I have the 15 with 200 FT rode. If I was doing it again I would go with 30 FT of chain 8 plait.

The 8 plait coils neatly in the locker and does not kink or twist.

I had to move the Mooring bit aft then drill a new hole for the rode to feed into the locker. It worked out slick. You might find you will get a better drop with the vertical windlass and the transition from chain to line is very smooth on the verticals.

when you say "plait" do you mean braided nylon line. That's a great idea because I get kinked line stuffing the nylon into the hold by hand. Braid should have enough stretch.

Don't forget to install a pulsation damper slightly uphill on the output side of the sensor.

From the TwinScan installation manual:
For proper system operation, Carburetor Inboard & I/O Engines having diaphragm fuel pumps require Gasoline Pulsation Dampers. FloScan Systems are not shipped with Pulsation Dampers’ as carburetor Inboard and I/O engines are no longer in production. If you have a Carburetor Inboard or I/O engine, Pulsation Dampers can be purchased factory direct. Standard Flow Dampers’ are $30.00 each and High Flow Dampers’ are $45 each. Hamilton Marine has plait line, which falls in a heap and does not need to be coiled. I would use 5/8" or larger because it is easy on the hands. Even 3/8" breaks at 3700 lbs., strong enough to anchor a 32 probably.

Albert, You are welcome to check out the windlass I installed on my 32. My boat will be in the Trail Creek Marina until May 1st and then in slip 773 at the Michigan City marina just down the dock from you. This is not an easy installation but well worth it.
When I die I hope my wife sells my stuff for more than I told her I paid for it.
