Honestly, I keep coming back to this.. Seems like a good deal, and I'm a sucker for strays. Anyone have a look at this in person? If I'm doing my arithmetic correctly, it's 3,000.00 for the whole she-bang including a rebuilt engine and tranny? Is the interior gutted now? What's wrong with this picture... As the saying goes, if it seems too good to be true..

Ya, I did yesterday, I did not go inside, but understand some things have been removed but do go with the boat. The hull is a tough call, the strut is corroded away pretty bad, the bottom looks like it has some for sure as well and I saw what looked like some filling compound that was not worked out well but it is all covered in such a thick coating of black it is hard to be sure what is there.

Brick wall
I'm the owner of this 28' and I still have it. I'm new to marinettes, no expert by a long shot, so excuse me if I don't know as much as you guys. Yes the outside will need to be refinished but the aluminum is in great shape
The inside I've put back together (all contents we'd taken out, but since put back) except for the ice box and that was going to be replaced by a fridge or something, but we didn't get around to it. Berth cushions are there, seating for galley there and material in good shape, I've relaminated the kitchenette counter and small counter for the sink in the head, but the galley table needs relaminating. The vinyl covering on the walls is coming loose in places (normal for this year I'm sure) but I did research and this seems to be similar to some RV/travel trailer vinyl coverings of the same era, and they were paintable. In fact, looks like this might have had some paint put on at some point. I'm not familiar with what paint would stick to this vinyl, but I'm sure some of you are. The vinyl looks like it could easily be reglued in places and painted
the rear deck was rotten in places so we took that out, and we have one sheet of 3/4 marine plywood to go with the boat. YOu'll need at least one more to complete the deck, along with either that floor vinyl or marine carpet. The engine and tranny are on a palet in Lexington. Four of us bought this thing and one of the guys is an engineer with a machining company who got the engine packed and sent off, rebuilt and he rebuilt the tranny, carb and water pump himself. We have paperwork on the engine.
Good part: it's a straight boat with plenty of potential
bad part: she's definately a project and it will take time and effort to bring the potential out.
Anyone have any interest you can reach me at 502.254.9575 to talk about her

Doug Doty said they saw the boat and there was filler in the hull somewhere. I can't discount that or confirm it, as I said I don't know as much as you guys about boats, but 4 of us guys have looked it over, 5 if you count the engineer from Lexington (a brother in law) who has been into boating all his life, and we didn't see the filling. You can see the bottom of the hull from the rear deck since the deck isn't there right now :) and the metal looks good with no gouges.
And I don't even know what a 'strut' is, so I can't say anything about that. Anyone is welcome to check it out for themselves at Marine Sales and Service in Louisville, 2929 River Road. The boat yard is open during the days and the boat is about 200 feet inside the yard on the left side (should be the only red and white Marinette in the vicinity).
I'm totally not out to take anyone with this boat. We bought it a year ago and have between $6000 and $7000 in her if you include the year's storage fees we've paid, so we're definately not making money.
We just need to sell her.
I got a call from someone today who had a 454 and straight velvet tranny that would fit her, so he's checking it out....I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
If he buys the boat I'll be looking for a buyer for the 318 crysler and tranny.
Anyone need repowered?
We have $3000 in those and would want $2200 for it...a real buy I think.

So does every aluminum boat builder. I saw a 90 foot Burgher that was in a fire. It had a HALF INCH of fairing compound around the cabin windows to get the surface straight.
