Anyone use the Sierra 49409 stuffing box to replace the rudder stuffing box on your Marinette?

I believe Teleflex Sierra still makes the 49409 Delrin Plastic rudder stuffing box. Trying to confirm if this works for Marinette rudders. Any experience?

Search for part 49409.

When the time comes to replace my rudder bearings, I plan to make some up out of delrin. It is good stuff and always slides against polished stainless. I have a few chunks of rod around somewhere....

I just used one of those for my new stainless steel rudder. As for whether or not it works, I'll have to wait to launch the boat for the definitive answer, but so far it seems like just the thing (It looks like a direct replacement for the previous part.)

Did you replace the thrust washer? Where did you buy it from?

I hope this isn't a double post; I just wrote a "Quick Reply" but it did not appear to post, so I'm trying this as well:

I did not use a thrust washer. The tiller arm is riding atop the bronze cast collar fitting at the top of the rudder between the tiller arm and the stuffing box. There was no thrust washer in the previous setup, so I'm trying it "as was", except that I am isolating the bronze collar and the rudder cable linkage from the hull. Previously the rudder (and the prop shaft d'oh!) were not isolated. If I wind up with too much friction between the tiller arm and the collar, I may add a delrin washer later on.

I bought the stuffing box from BoatFix.com for $58.64 shipped to Ithaca, NY. It arrived complete except for the hose coupling. I used a hose coupling from a local hardware store to connect the stuffing box to the rudder log.
