I know there are several posts about upper helm ignition switches. I looked them over and with how my ignition is reacting, I believe I need a new starboard switch. I would like to order from Poco because I have had good experience with them. I didn't find a part number in the old posts for the on-run-momentary start type switch. I was hoping someone would have the correct part number.
Thanks in advance,
Jim
PS: the switch will start the engine but when the switch is returned to the run position, the engine quits. Starts and runs well from the lower helm.

A good choice is the industrial sealed toggle switch from Eaton. Meets MIL-STD-108E. To get a start switch you need to get the on-on-(on) 2-pole switch and mount it upside down. This means nothing if you are mounting into a round hole. Part number is 8511K15. They also make the switch with a locking toggle lever - you have to lift the toggle to go up into "start". Pocosales will probably have them, or an equivalent.

Doug: The only place on the internet that I can find these is ee-usa.com. They have a minimum order of 50 and they are $28.98 each. OUCH, pocosales said sorry...

I found the same as Aquaholic. I called Poco and the guy, someone I've never talked with before, gave me the impression that he really didn't have time for me. It disappointed me because I've had a good experience with them in the past. He was pretty irritated that I didn't have a part number and wouldn't try to help me figure it out. He also said that Airpax didn't make switches, just breakers. Anyway, I called John A. and he is trying to find me one with a black handle. He has silver handles in stock but no blacks ($40)

If I am ever faced with that dilema I would think hard about splitting it into two switches, one on/off toggle and a big red momentary "start " button commonlly available.

I use keyswitches below, wired so that they can lock out the locking toggle switches on the flybridge. I like the toggles, and my upper engine panel is filled with diesel stuff and there would be no room to give an extra pushbutton the correct space around it.

I would recommend http://sccatalog.honeywe...1-50.series.chart.1.pdf (data sheet) which will do the job nicely.

Looking at the data sheet, you can see that you get the function you want if you connect BATT to 2&5, IGN to 1, START to 4, and ACC to 6. Note that standard mounting is with the momentary end down, you want it to be up.

You can get some from Newark at http://www.newark.com/ho...oggle-switch/dp/23F1988 for around $25. Remember, these are very good switches, widely used by industry and the military. I use this grade of switch always, they never fail. You can use rubber boots with them for looks, but you don't need them. They can be had with locking levers: you have to pull the lever up to move the toggle. I prefer these, since I don't want rough-housing teenagers accidentally running the starters. I guess if I wait a couple of years, that won't be a problem....

Looks good, Doug. I haven't heard from John A. yet about the black (matching) switch. If he can't suppy the matching switch, I guess I could replace both with the Honeywell. About the start button or other starting system, I would screw up the wiring, as history has confirmed, so I've got to stick to copying what's already there.

Jeff,

I know how you feel. I often miss my 28' with its beautiful lines, express control station, and huge cockpit and head. I did not mind the single engine, and I did not mind the small living space. But someone else did.

Doug
