Capt T or Mark, Will you sell me your old lights for parts. Maybe I can make one work out of three. My moter & rack that makes it swing right to left is trashed. Thanks, Wayne

Sorry Wayned'oh! Mine hit the dumpster as soon as it came off. Many things hit that dang dumpster that I wished I had saved to give out here. Oh well Maybe Mark still has his.

I've depended on a hand held since we got the boat. Put in a cigarette light socket (someone else can be PC, I've gotten a little annoyed at what seems to be an extreme bent on what can and can't be said... <some other time for soap box items...>) on the upper bridge. Used that light at night on a trip we took in October down the Ohio after we had to wait 4 hours to get thru Markland Dam's lock. Was dark by the time we were able to lock thru. T'was cold and admiral wasn't having any of opening the front windows in the salon (if I drove from down there) so I drove from up top. As Sean mentioned the light would reflect back if I didn't hold it out beyond that. Needed to keep a sharp eye out as barge traffic was heavy and shore line/bottom could cause a problem. Cold night and hands got pretty stiff (instead of me after relaxin' with a couple of long island ice teas...). So having that remote light up on the bow pulpit will really come in handy.

Has anyone pulled a 7" Jabsco light apart (Model 61040)? There's something other than the 6 screws holding the light housing to the mounting stem and I haven't quite figured out what it is.

I haven't seen anyone using the hand helds as a head light, as of yet.. We use ours for spotting buoys and shore features.. My '64 Owens has the cool giant spotlight on the cabin roof with the two inner/outer dials at the helm for horizontal and vertical.. Hadn't been installed in probly 20 years of previous owners.. I installed it in about an hour and that thing works great! The fact that it's manual instead of electric makes for less pieces to go wrong or drain batteries, cept for the bulb which is pretty small... Does any company make new ones like that?

Sean:

You are right--maybe I'm a luddite but my dad's Owens and my uncle's 1970 28' BigM had a similar design.

Hold on to your wallets, they looked like this one: http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=16386F

I own one of the Perko lights that you linked to, it is in my Boston Whaler. It is nice but I am not sure its worth todays price.

On my M I have a http://store.hamiltonmar...t-ss-135851-/4,383.html which is a pretty good light for less. I cannot use it from the lower helm because of course the flybridge is in the way, so I use it manually on the flybridge. It is mounted in front of the seat, and I put a handle and switch on the back of the light so that I can use it directly. On an M without a flybridge, it can be mounted as intended and used from the helm.

I have no searchlight that I can use from the lower helm. I don't know how to fix that...
