Finally Got the new glass in place. We really like it. Never again will I use Aluminum trac, Plastic is definitely the way to go. Found Black plastic trac at Sima marine in Ohio. Salon looks much darker than it is. Took a midnight cruise last night and had no problem seeing through the glass. Glass was limo tinted in Cabins and lite smoke in the salon.Applause

we have aluminum trac in aft cabin windows, took most of the day to cut, fit and install. The black plastic trac was cut, fit and installed in the salon and forward cabin in 1 afternoon. Just a whole lot easier to work with. may not last as long as aluminum but heck the last stuff made it 32 years, if this last that long I'll be 84. It may out last me.Drool The only downside with the plastic trac is it definitely takes 2 people to install because it is so flexible, we caulked all the trac's and when I tried to put 1st set in by myself I made 1 heck of a messd'oh!

it definitely takes 2 people to install

Hey..that's an improvement. It took 2 to remove my alum trax and 3 to install. And this was in the parking lot. On the water, out of caution, we could have used 4. But a good suction cup would have simplified things.

Joel,
I managed to get it all out by myself. Wasn't easy but did it. The only thing I would do differently on the install would be to put the bottom trac in first, then tip the top in. DUH! would have been a lot easier this way if I had thought of it before going around the whole boat sealing and mounting the top pieces in placed'oh! It was a bear to lift the glass and tracs up and into place. That's what I get for doing this without any beer on the boat. I must have been dropped twice when born, Lol

I am going to make you feel badly so take an aspirin now. Ready... John Althouse has passed along instructions for trimming the bottom trax a little so taking out the windows is a one person gig. You'll have to research the site. But (this is approx) you shave half the ht from the lower window track. Then, the window goes up to the top track and then is tilted inward and allowed to settle. Done. Don't know whether that can be done w/plastic. Prob so. Trimming is done with a table or radial saw or other cutting implement of your choice.
Easy, when you know how.

Joel, I had heard of that cut before. My biggest problem was the equip to make those cuts and the mess, Really not cost effective for me.
Fishnatic, Boat is located on fort Loudon in TN. We chose the Black plastic trac for that reason, holds up better in the sun. Don't have to worry about Ice an snow here. Algae is a problem though best way to combat that is a stiff skinny brush and dish soap.

Re: algae.....are the tracks draining well. if not, you can drill some holes along the lower edge and clip a piece off the lower part of the end (where the track meets the vertical. If the tracks remain essentially dry, there should be little scum growing. Other solution would be to drop some small snails in there. They will take care of your algae.

One can also use stainless track. Has anybody tried this, any recommendations?

Fastjeff was going to send me a garbage can full of twenties, and I was going to use that. Hamilton Marine used to carry very nice stainless double track for around $65/8' but they don't seem to have it any more. Jeff, I guess you can forget the can....

Didn't you get them? I'll admit the words "President Jefferson Davis" were a bit faded, but...
