Wayne, used the 1/4 inch cause the glass we ordered came in 1/4 thickness, No rattle fits snug enough that they don't open while underway anymore and the water can't get by them now.

Did you include the edge sealing trick one of our (genius!) members came up with? Slip a piece of "U" shaped rubber over the vertical edge of the pane to keep the bugs from coming in between the two panes of glass. One of the best things I did on my boat!
