On my 1985 32 Sedan, I have twin Chrysler 360's. The Starboard engine has the "R" on the plate and the Port has the "L". I looked at a photo of my props and yes indeed, the Starboard turns outward and so does the Port. I checked the belt rotation and yes, they are both turned outward.

On the intake manifold, both engines have the Distributor Rotation as clockwise. Yes, indeed, with the caps off, they BOTH spin clockwise. Are my cams cut so that distributors both turn clockwise?

I woke up last night remembering that I had my starter rebuilt and maybe it was done incorrectly thinking holy crap, I am running reversed, maybe I looked at it wrong....

Help me sleep...

Thanks,

-Bill

Distributors turn the same way, either engine. You are fine.

Correct. Even the oil pump turns the same way. (I CAN consider retirement!) You set up the firing order on hte distributor cap backwards for the reverse rotator, that's all.

Does the marine gear change the shaft rotation direction?

Not in those older trannies. ALL Newer boats have standard rotation engines, including Outdrive boats. The prop direction is determined inside the trans/ outdrive.

Our old, reverse rotating motors are dinosaurs.

If you think that motor is confusing, try figuring out one of those old Chris Craft S B Chevy conversions. They mounted the trans on the other end of the motor, the damper pulley end, with a custom distributor located in their bell housing. The flywheel was visible on the other end of the motor. Weird!
