Found em guys, in the heads up panel at the helm, flybridges were just to the right up on the bridge, got EVERY circuit fired up and working on the new 'm' and get this, took apart the main switch for the panel lights (on the bridge, everything was corroded) and worked some magic and it is working just fine too, thank you!!!! Things to do list is down to two tachs (one down and one up,any sugestions will be greatly appreciated on this) that aren't working and one depthfinder(up)....one by one getting things back on line. hope to get the rest this week before I have to back home for a bit.....got several things left that I can do from the suveyors list but most have to be done on the hard, cutlass, props, repacking, transmitions are moving in neutral to mention a few....JAM

Jack,

U can do the re-pack of the shafts while she’s afloat that way when U have finished the re-packing U’ll be able to adjust the nut & get the proper drip rate of about two/three drops a minute. Just make sure U have everything U need to do the job like the packing, a tool(drywall screw works well) to take out the old crap making sure it all out of the packing nut. Cut the packing to length at a 45* where they join place joints 90* / 120* apart should take 3 strands. Than U can sit back with a kool one after U take it for a spin to set the packing & re-adjust the packing nut.

If you use GFO packing then your shaft will have little or no drip at rest. It is great stuff. Packed mine three years ago and have not had to touch since!

Ditto. In fact, I rarely think about the packings anymore (which is not really a good thing.....)

When repacking the shaft, it is helpful to pre-cut the packing at home before going to the boat. If you know your shaft diameter, you can use a dummy shaft to wrap the packing around and cut at a 45 degree angle.

Oddly enough, the shaft packings' drippings are well below what they were when I first got the boat in the water, the port side was leaking and sounded like a fauset running almost at first. Now a drip about every five seconds or so at rest. Never the less, will repack when I do all the other stuff just to start from brand new-fresh on everything in the engine room end. as far as precutting, the boat came with one spare shaft (I found it behind the sofa while cleaning the boat out, across from the dinette) and so will do that, thanks again guys!
