I could find no sign of a galvanic isolator on my boat when I bought her. I was reading 0 ohms between the shorepower green ground pin and the hull with an ohmmeter. There was no damage to the hull that I could see, and the Capac was reading properly, but a screwup in the marina power could have pulled aluminum off the hull in a real hurry.
A galvanic isolator protects the hull as long as the marina ground is intact. At my marina, the ground burned up halfway down the dock, and some guy had his ground connected to his battery, which put 12 Vdc on the shore ground for several boats. A galvanic isolator does not protect against this.
I added an isolation transformer, which is a complete fix. This is a $500 solution rather than a $150 solution, but is worth looking at.
