I was having trouble believing that she is a Marinette, until I saw that rudder. Yup, just like mine.

..."What is the beam on those ???"

Since it comes with a trailer, so one would assume it's under 8 and half feet, but...

It that the oldest Marinette we've seen to date? It is for me.

I thought the early ones had a porthole. May have been changed. A fun project if I was 30 years younger and could get it for $500.00.

Just got back from looking at the boat. It's about 80mi. down the road from me, so I rode the Valkyrie down(good ride across Center Hill Lake on hiway 56). As you can see from pics on CL, the keel has been knocked loose for about ten feet from the prop and again in the bow where it rests on a cross member of the trailer. I talked to a man there that says his Dad bought it about 12yrs ago and it has been sitting on the trailer ever since....My brother pulled the dipstick on the engine and says it has water in the crank case. I was surprised to find that it is a riveted hull instead of being welded. Didn't know they had done that. The sheeting on the cabin shows no evidence of how it is fastened. The hull aluminum sounded pretty thin compared to my Fisherman but I never saw a cross section of it. It sits about 7-8mi. south of McMinnville on the east side of the road(TN 55) Town called Morrison. Somebody comment on the rivets?? I'll go back down next day or so and get some pics as there are some interesting things about it....

Pics of the '54....The engine is a four cyl Universal Unimite(or Unomite)?, V drive....Crank case full of water- plum to the top of the dipstick hole. Check damage to keel damage both bow and stern. How 'bout all them rivets ?- now I can see how the cabin siding is attached.

Still pretty cool! But the price seems way to high.. So is it supposed to be a house boat? kinda looks more like a house boat than anything.. And the keel damage.. Caused by a forklift? I think $500.0 would be generous.

The owners son says they have done quite a bit of research and feel that the asking price is about right....?

It might make a better shed than a boat at this point... Could be sweet in the back yard....No really.. Some people just think everything they own is a pile of gold, not just a pile of... Well, you get the point. If the present owner has any sentimentality about this ever being a boat again, serious price re-evaluation is needed..

Reminds me of some people on the 'American Pickers' show. The boys want to give 'em thousands of dollars for rusty piece of crap...and they say no 'cause they want to keep it!

I don't know what "research" they did, but I once paid $1000 for a 28' in much better condition, and similar "water damage". If you offer them four figures you are nutz.

A link from the Marinette Co. Site to a brochure on the boat: http://www.marinetteclub.com/28SD53A.htm.

I was interested in finding info on the rivited hull but could not blow it up enough to read it....

Tried link today and appears it is broken. You can go to marinetteclub.com, click on vintage brochures and see it that way....I'm courious there's no comments about the welded together boat. Am I the only one that didn't know Garcia did that??
