I am getting a bilge smell in cabin. After I running the boat I run the blowers for a few minutes (over 5-10 minutes) The gas evaporates out of the carbs and will set off the sniffer after about a 1/2 hour. I run the blowers for a few more minutes the sniffer quiets down. I get a bilge smell in the cabin after the boat is closed up for a few days with the A/C on.

Is this common?
(If I do not come down for a couple of day the carbs are dry and they do not start easy) See Jeffs post.

I am planning to build a continuous duty bilge vent. I would like to use a 120V or 12V computer type fan with ball bearing that can be run 24-7. I am going to have to find a fan that is ignition protected or a sealed motor. It does not have to move a lot of air just enough to keep a small negative pressure in the bilge.

Ratt:

You must have a gas leak somewhere down there, and that's bad news. Start at the tank fuel level senders (I had a gaskey leak on me there) and proceed all the way to the carbs.

Explain what you mean by bilge smell, oil, fuel, or stagnant water??

Where is the A/C drip pan drain line going? Is it pumping out of the shower pan?

I have been concerned about a fuel leaks. I have checked all lines and fittings. I have the stock copper lines with the chrysler inline filter. I replaced the PERKO water seporator with a spin on type. The only rubber fuel lines are between the fuel pump and valve I replaced the fuel tank sender gaskets last year. (Noticed fuel seeping when the tank was full) The vapor alarm only goes off when the engines are warm. After they cool down or after a few hours I do not get an alarm.

On the smell my wife thinks is smells like gas I think it smells of the engine compartment stale gas oil water smell. The cabin compartments are dry.

Riverrat. Often overlooked is the fuel fill and vent hose. My fill hose had never been changed in 36 years. When filling My alarm would go off. The ladies can smell things we can't . Remember they can smell a dirty dipper a room away. I'm glad I can't smell what they can. Wayne

Do you still have the old Carter carbs? My old Carter AFBs were running very rich or I had a seal leaking in the body, which caused a strong fuel smell in the cabin. I put on reconditioned 1409s and the smell went away.... Applause most of the smell that is. I think I still have a faint fuel smell. I will be replacing the fuel tank sending unit seal soon.

Here's the link to the Carter carb replacement thread

Does anyone know were I can get a fuel tank sender gasket for 100 gallon tank? (1985 29 Sedan, twin 318s)

If it is a "rotten egg" smell, it could be your hot water heater. A small dose of Clorox in the water tank has helped to eliminate the issue in Detour.

Here's a link to a local place I just got a Moeller unit from:
http://www.hernshipstore...ding+Unit+12-24%22.html

Admittedly, I've got 75 gal tanks, but I had to trim off a section from the bracket (per instructions) so you may be able to use it for a 100 gal unit.
