I was thinking of putting a water filter on my M. What type of water filter do you recommend?

W. W. Graingers sells one that works good. You'll need to hit the hardware store for hose fittings (in and out). Be sure to buy several replacable cartridges since they often stop stocking them.

Here is a great product!

As you surf the site you will see that there are a ton of different size screens. I use this system on a well that has sediment (shale). The best part is you can flush the filter and you can also remove the filter and clean it a bunch of times before you need to replace it.

Easy to plumb into a line but you will have to reduce. Just an option. Not a water purifier but they might have also.

I use an Omni whole house filter that I mounted on the forward bulkhead of the wine cellar. We have good city water at our marina so I use a taste and odor filter cartridge in it. It's like drinking bottled water now. I change the charcoal filter every fall. You can get different types of filters for different reasons but the charcoal works good for our water. The unit is available at Lowes or Menards for under $50.00. Rick

We had a problem with funny taste in the water (it comes out of the tap like that in Florida) and so I bought an under-sink-style filter with activated charcoal from a plumbing supply place, and piped it to a restaurant-style glass filler next to the galley faucet. A glass filler is those things where you push the glass against a cradle that turns on the water. Now, water for cooking or drinking can be obtained with one hand, but all the boat's water use doesn't go through the filter, which is rated for something like 500 gallons.

Thanks for all the suggestions! This may be the usual set up but being new and a little green here goes: my 81 M has dual aluminum water tanks that appear to be 30 gallon (will measure soon). They are connected at the bottoms with what looks like an inch or inch and a quarter hose. I plan to shock, clean /purge before installing the filter.

My single water tank is off-center, and the boat lists that way when the tank is full, and the other way when it is not. I would think that two connected tanks would be worse - all the water in one tank. I think I would try to keep the levels equal, I am not sure how.

I have the sphinon problem with my fuel tanks. Just a littlt list will cause the fluid to go to the low side, causing a larger list. Hope to have the trim tabs installed by spring to eliviate the problem

Thougt about looking for some check vlaves but so far I've been able to deal with it.

That must be one hell of a list! I suggest installing a valve in between the two tanks to isolate them (which is what they should have from the factory).

Measured the water tanks today they a little over 51 gallons so they must be 50 gallons each and the hose between is ¾ with an in line shutoff. I could keep the valve closed and only open it while under way and on plane. Then I could use the trim tabs to prevent list.

What you can do is install two one-way check valves, one on each tank and both of them plumbed to the water pump inlet. This way, the water pump can get water from either or both tanks, but one tank cannot fill the other. This solves the problem of having water flow from one tank to the other, but does not ensure that the water pump pulls its water from the two tanks equally. A device to do just that is common in hydraulics but I do not know of one for water. Will have a look, tho.
