Hello Everyone!
Wanted to introduce myself as a "newbie" to the Marinette Forum and as a Marinette owner. I've had several 30' plus boats over the years, but I've always had a desire to get back to owning a metal boat. My first "large" boat was a steel hulled homemade 34' paddlewheel houseboat that I ran on the Susquehanna River. Well I've purchased a 1992 34' Marinette Aft Cabin and all of the research I've done so far leads me to believe this might be one-of-a-kind. The hull number ends in 92', and the original owners purchased it in 1993 from Boating of Corporation of America, Gallatin, TN. I've not been able to find any information on the web about this boat. I've seen an old sketch of one posted by one of your members and was hoping someone out there has seen another one or can direct me to a possible source for any other information regarding specifications. All I have is a builder's checklist, no manual or spec. sheets. As far as I know, this company is out of business. I will try to post a small picture of it. Warning - I'm not really that good with posting pictures, so I'm told. Glad to be aboard!
Thank You, Capt. Paddwheel [img]http://i1044.photobucket.com/albums/b450/captpaddwheel/34%20Marinette/th_marinette37.jpg?t=1287938433/img]

You don't have to go that small on the pictures. I shoot big with my digital camera and copy and use MS Paint to resize a copy for posting. Also you can delete the second copy of your post so we only have one thread.

Great boat and very unique. I need a update on my Marinette history to take me to 1993. Dang -- we got catamarans and houseboats and now a 34 aft cabin. BTW has anyone written a Marinette history with model and production figures. We have over 500 members but where are the rest of the boats.

Capt. Paddwheel,
I have 3 different photo sizing prog.'s but Shrink Pic works as well with all web sites and will resize your pic's auto. to the correct size. Small download and a no brainer . If you can't find it on the website check out CNET .COM . FREE of coarse.

Nice boat!! I've heard of the 34 aft cabin but never saw one. Was beginning to think it didnt exist.
It looks like the 44' that is shown on Jeff's page and on this forum.
I think Althouse told me those very late years were produced by a houseboat company. I guess that would be BCA.

Update:
Harbor Master is the name John Althouse told me. The Boating Corp of America built Harbor Master boats. That is until they closed in 2008.
Check this link on some Marinette info.

I saw this boat back about ten years ago in Occoquan, VA. We bought both our 92 model 41 aft there in 1999 and returned two years later to the day and bought our current 1990 41 convertible. Both came from Prince William Marina who was apparently a pretty large Marinette delaer back in their day. At the time we were there they were selling a load of Sea Rays. There were still a number of marinettes parked there and in neighboring marinas. If I recall, the 34 aft was part aluminum and it also had some fiberglass, perhaps the cabin or bridge? I recall that there was something very odd about it (doesn't make it bad and not to mean negative), just different. By the way, the 1992 41 aft we bought was built in Galletin and was a different boat as compared to all built in Louisville. I used to work about 3 miles from the old factory and would visit there about once a month. I was always in to pick up a part or any excuse I could find to just wander through the factory. The building was very small, an old WWII army quansit hut style building. Ceilings were so low that the bigger boats were moved around on dollies that kept their keels a few inches off the floor. Bridges had to be fitted outside and then removed for paint and later shipping. In 1990 we ended up buying a house on the Ohio river and our neighbor 2 doors down used to deliver boats for the factory all over the country. Mostly midwest as that was where most went. He had some really neat stories. I wished I had taken more pictures back then, never thought that they would go out of business. The guys at Jefferson Yacht have talked a few times about trying to recreate a production boat like marinette, but doubtful in the market we are in now.

G Burch,

A question for an owner of so many past Marinette"s. What is your opinion of the possible handling characteristics of the 34' aft cabin. You mentioned something "odd" about it. Maybe it looked a little top-heavy? I haven't been out with her yet but itching to do so when the weather warms. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Capt. Paddwheel

Sorry for the delay in replying to Docsnow. I do not have any pictures of the old plant other than what most of you have seen in various pieces of literature.

To Capt Paddwheel, I would think that your boat would handle pretty well and with 454's it should be pretty quick and have no problem planing out at low rpm. Does your boat have fiberglass cabin or bridge? That was what I meant by odd. I remember talking to a Marinette owner in Occoquan that told me something about it and I don't remember for sure but it seemed that some part of that boat was glass? I would not think that your boat would be top heavy.

G Burch,

The Bridge/Salon roof and flybridge structure is fiberglass. The rest including the radar arch is aluminum. Looking at the interior below deck layout is amazing. Don't think I could add one more thing down there, but there are access panels everywhere. I might note the superstructure has some of the thickest aluminum gussets I've ever seen, and the welds are spot on. The only thing I don't get is why did they smear "tar"? in the bottom along the keel. What's up with that? Still the craftsmanship is very impressive.

Capt Paddwheel,
That tar as some call it (gobbly goop) was their BigM answer to sound proofing d'oh! In my opinion not a great choice Not talking But I guess those of us that are to lazy to clean it out are stuck with it Brick wall those that have tried & did clean it out replied it was a nasty chore Whistle

To the best of my knowledge this was the only boat built under the name that was partly built from fiberglass. I believe I have a factory drawing on this boat somewhere and see if I can locate it.

G Burch,

As you can imagine any information, drawings, diagrams, even talking to an ex-employee of Marinette would be a treat. Of the larger boats I've owned, a Chris Craft, a Trojan, (my Great-Uncle was a designer at the Lancaster, Pa. plant), and currently a Sea Ray, this rare Marinette has been by far the hardest one to get specs. & performance info on. I'm still very happy owning an almost all aluminum boat and appreciate all the help.
Thanks, Capt. Paddwheel
P.S. Hope to find a few Marinette owners this spring on the Chesapeake Bay to celebrate with!
