What I like best about having a boat is that it is like living in the south on a summer evening before AC. People sat on the porch where they waved and spoke to everyone as they passed by and boaters at least around here do the same. M owners are a lot like Jeep and Harley owners in that they are very friendly with other M’s. Like Jeep/Harley Davidson owners who customize and personalized their rides M owners do the same, each M reflects its owners taste and personality in American built aluminum.

The thing about owning a boat or boating Is people are there to enjoy themselves Not just a mode of transportation. that's why riders wave along with boaters. most people don't enjoy driving to work it's just what you have to do

I agree that boating in the South and in the North is great. The advantage I see in the South is a longer season. In the north I would think that cooler water would make for comfortable summer nights on the water. It is interesting to read about boats being hauler for the winter by November, Around here some winterize around November and others leave the heat on to enjoy those days in December when you can still wear shorts. Some years we will have good days in each of the winter months but last winter was unusually cold in these parts. I would like to head south for winter and north for summer, not the great loop but north and south in fresh water.

The North has some great boating, but the season is short.....six months at best......with April and October having alot of iffy days...however the six months of Fall, Winter and Spring are way too long.....time flies from haul out in October to New Years.......but then the days and weeks seem to last forever from January till haul out day in Mid-April....

I think that great movie from the 60's "Endless Summer" had the right idea.....let it never end!

What I like best about MY boat is that I have TWO holes in the water is which to throw money - just wish I had enough money to keep up with them....!

:d/ What I like best about having a BOAT is NO yard work, sitting on the bridge enjoying a glass of lemonade and my pipeWhistle while watching the clowns that should not even leave their house let alone own a boat maneuver around the marinas. Ha ha

IMHO there is no finer boating than a place in the northeast corner of Lake Huron called the "North Channel." ALikened to the Greek Isles, there are litterally tens of thousands of granite islands. Black granite, white granite, and in the heart of the North Channel, the Benjamin Islands and their pink granite. To over night you pick a secluded island, drop your bow anchor a couple hundred of feet before where you want to stay, and swing your stern to shore, where you tie it to a tree or two with the help of the ever present dingy. Whatever you save on slip fees is quickly exhausted buying Candian petrol. When I did it I had the advantage of using a rag boat.

Find a copy of "the Great Lakes Cruising Guide", or join the Great Lakes Cruising Club to get one. It is unparalled in completeness to find all the hidden hide outs that litter the area and to avoid all the groaners.

Of all the boaters that I have talked to about their travels, the ones that traveled the great lakes raved about them for beautiful vistas and facilities, and specifically northern great lakes for their beautiful clean, clear waters and excellant harbors. I have been to about half of Michigans harbors and once you get into Lakes Huron, Michigan and Superior, they are awsome, worth the pulling out a couple of months early for, need time for the PM anyways..... It's a waterfront view without the cost of waterfront property, and when you get tired of the view you simply turn around, or gather your skirts and move on.
