Hey guys, I am pulling my 1965 26' Convertable out and over to a good friend of mine who has a heavy truck body shop so He is very familiar with alum. We will be walnut blasting the bottom and he mentioned painting it with Emron. I would like your thoughts on using this paint. I am in Central Missouri, and the boat is in the water for about 6 months.
Many thanks,
Neal

Familiar with aluminum? Hummm....

After blasting comes etching, then epoxy barrier coating, then AF (on the bottom) or (if you like) Imron on the top and sides.

Leave out any of the above steps and the paint will fall off.

What you are hearing is that Imron is not the choice for bottom paint. Only anti-fouling paint. Imron is an excellent decorative material, waterline and up. TOugh and long lasting. You will find a few good posts on the site giving you step by step advice on blasting and refinishing the bottom. Most important: getting the bare bottom re-coated with one coat of the proper protection within HOURS (not a day, not overnight).

I am glad to be back on board and appreciate the varied and interesting responses, I think my painters reason for Emron was familiarty and expense (Free) but if Emron wont stick, I will use another brand of epoxy paint. Like Jeff espoused for so many years on the old Delphi forum "I am cheap!" If you like, I will let you know how I progress.

Actually I'm not cheap, I'm a cheapSKATE. There's a difference. And my first name is Neal, by the way.

Yes, I remember Neal. Just curious, did you ever have an opportunity to try my suggestion for using a wood lathe turning tool to cut out a stubborn strut bushing?

Yes, in fact. I had to sharpen it assbackwards (concave vs., convex, or was it the other way around...) but it worked slick.

Thanks for a good idea!
