I drained the block and tried to fill with antifreeze but it would not pump . Puled thermastat and could only pour a quart in what is the problem. usually i just pour in strainer and motor pumps it through. Did not overheat on trip to ramp which is a 10 mile trip.????????

Pull the t-stat FIRST, then it will suck the Pink Stuff in from the strainer.

With the t-stat out and the housing bolted back in place, I disconnect the intake hose from the strainer and elevate it above the level of the raw water pump. I use a funnel and fill the intake hose to prime the pump then crank the engine. I use a remote starter switch to start the motor and then turn off the battery switch to stop it when it has taken enough antifreeze.

Normally, I have the "Admiral" start the motors, then shuffle back and forth--looking for the Pink Stuff to come out the exhaust--before dashing to the helm and turning them off. I, meanwhile, keep dumping the AF into the open strainer (sea cock shut off!). This time, however, it rained all damn day long! No let up, for criminy sake! So I just dumped in 4 gallons, knowing that would be enough.

And it was no fun transporting batteries and stuff through the puddles in the rain to the trunk! We were whipped for the next day at least.

still can not get the pump to pump the antifreez, could it be that the pump went bad?? could it be an air lock?? Is there any draincocks besides the sides of the block and the manifoldes??

Better pull that pump apart and see what's going on inside it. Strange that it was working before.....

Just a thought. Are you sure you connected the hoses to the pump correctly? if you hook them up backwards the pump won't pull. Been there Done that before.

Correct. It can blow the diodes. I use the "Admiral" to switch off.

This happened to me, turned out the pump was on upside down even though it was "reversible", but it doesn't sound like you took yours off. You might want to take the pump off, spin the pulley, look down the port to see if the impeller's spinning.

OOPS! Yes it would but not on my boat. I have a combiner that automatically combines the output from both alternators and divides the amps between both starting batteries and the house bank. My alternator output does not go through my battery switches.

Sorry if I caused anyone to blow an alternator.
