I want to install a new transducer when I am out of the water this winter. Question is, is there a way to run 1 transducer going to 2 sounders (1 up and 1 down)?

Don't like drilling holes in the boat and don't really want to have to buy 2 transducers.

Would be interested in any info on this. Have an upper station depth unit but it's old and the depth alarms don't work (just the depth under the boat) so replacement may be in the works and a single transducer / dual display system would be ideal.

Airmar makes most of the transducers for the various display mfrs - check with them for a definitive answer and let us know what you learned

There are a number of bus-based products that allow wiring up several displays to the same depthfinder, but I have $everal problem$ with that $ystem.

You can get a nice unit for cheap (hamiltonmarine.com has a sale on this weekend) and install a transom-mount transducer a la fastjeff and spend a lot le$$, and still no hole in the hull. There is some advantage to having fully independent systems, one should always be working....

Never been a fan of transom mount stuff. I have had plenty knocked off from river debris and you have a hard time on a twin screw boat finding somewhere on the transom that they hold the bottom at all speeds and with the boat leaned over in a turn.

I would like to use 2 Furuno B/W head units with a single Airmar Tilted Element through hull transducer.

I Will get with Jim at BOE Electronics this week and see what he says about the Airmar and a splitter of some type. I have bought all my Airmar stuff from him and he is very knowledgable.

I was just wanting to see if someone else had allready done this with another setup. No sense in re-inventing the wheel.

I will let you guys know what I find out.

Jim says it's a no go on hardwiring two units to one transducer.

I solved the two station problem after some false starts. First there is not a "standard" hole size for a thru hull depth transducer. I found a depth gauge that allowed a second unit to be daisy changed to it. But the thru hull transducer supplied was too small in diameter. After a few phone calls, the company got me an excellent Airmar that fitted flush and could be removed from its housing. I can pull it and replace with an upgrade or a plug. Before you do anything see if you can find the serial # tape on the transducer wire. Then go to the Airmar site or call them to get a cross reference to compatible gauges. If your wire is cut you are going to need a new unit. Then measure your hole size. If you have an older boat with one of those wooden shoes sticking out of the bottom you will probably want to replace it with a flush unit. I removed my transducer by just chipping off the exterior flange with a small chisel and pushing it back into the hull. When I get home I will post the brands of the stuff I got. Meanwhile visit the Airmar.com site.
