I am already looking forward to starting my spring projects. Am I crazy or what? "No" I am sure that I am not alone in missing the treasured time spent afloat and watching the sun go down. My Admiral asked the other day, now how much is the paint going to cost? I laughed and ask why? she quickly replied I am ready to get started. Now that's a good partner!
Take care and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Know what you mean, barely got that thing winterized and have a to do list as long as, well you know. One good thing, my budget has time to recover a bit, having just bought it this year, it kinda blew me outa the water budget wise, so to speak. But really love put putting, a nice cigar, those Northern MI sunsets and a cool one in hand....JAM

I have the solution to the Winter Blues: I'm building a new dink boat. Got the wood just this morning and the saw dust is flying!

Jeff

PS: If anyone is interested, I'll post photos of the Superdink's progess.

You guys may think I'm crazy, but I'm thinking of getting one of these for my easy lake life dingy. I know the expected life is maybe a couple of years. My marina slip is very limiting on the dingy thing. This thing can be blown up for the weekend in less than 15 minutes and deflated and stored on front of deck for more room. Rowing is good exercise Think .. Of course this is only for a short trip to the bank for exploration...It has many limitations (hence the cost), but no motor to worry with. Applause

Many years ago I kept a cheap inflatable at the boat. Mostly I left it inflated and stored it on the hard top which, given its light weight, was easy. Do not underestimate the PAF (pain in the back factor) in inflating and deflating. If you have to do that on a regular basis, it will not get used as much

I suffered a minor episode when one of the the cheap plastic oar blades snapped off between two unseen rocks. (Notice I did not say "hidden" or "underwater".) Fortunately (as Stan can tell you) the "rapids" in the Beaver River aren't so rapid. I managed to rescue the boat and myself by swimming back to the bigger boat while towing the inflatable with the painter between my teeth. And even in August, that river is cold! (And surprisingly deep.)

Good luck.

I'm with ya Rob, I put mine up 3rd. week of Oct. so I could help a buddy with his and to allow time to winterize our other boat that stays in the water at the marina. I was able to store the 39 indoors for the winter for only $60.00 per. month just a couple of miles from the marina and ramp. I got my list also, paint from the gunnels down and new rub rail moldings all around. I want to install a new stereo system that rocks the house down without cutting any holes anywhere in my baby. Not sure how to tackle this one ?? I also got new aluminum intakes this summer so I got all new wires caps rotors and valve covers to go on the motors too.

Keep the pictures coming Jeff, interesting !!!

Before buying an inflatable like that one, you might want to use one. They are hard to exit/ enter since the floor is weak, and they aren't very rigid. I had one like that and enjoyed it, but it was a bit shaky.

Here's today's progress on the new dink.

The "Admiral" never lets me get "out of projects!"

The old dink "hit a wall" at 40 mph. It was designed back in the 50s for a 75 lb kid and 10 hp. I weigh a bit more than that, as does the up to 70 hp motor I had on it. Accelerated like crazy, but plowed its bow and would go no faster. (It went nearly as fast with 25 hp.)

'Mystake II' is nearly the same size, but a radically different design. It's a deep Vee, as you noted, with a planing step on the bottom. The "flotation pads" behind the stern are to keep it higher in the water at rest for I'm sick of water coming over the transom!

Jeff,

Hopefully no one was hurt Pray But motor wise U kinda let us down I would of thought some how U were able to get hold of one of those 500hp Chevy Camero engines they’re coming out with soon. Eh? Back to out boards I’ve found out that shaft lengths thru experimenting with have a lot to due with the planing, holeshots & top end speeds, as U know I’m a fan of the DUX Applause they recommend a short shaft 15" which is great for hole shots I’ve used my buddies long shaft 20" same hp one has to be careful with long shaft on the take off but top end speed increase greatly @ least 10 to 15 mph top end speeds of 40 mph with 15hp. If in U’d float me a loan "till my hunched back brother straightens up" Pray for a 50hp E Tech Evenrude I’d be top dog @ speeds nearing 70 to 80 mph No Brag Just Facts. AnyWho go gettem need for speed Fast Jeff Dancing

Louis (who hasn't posted here for a long time) had a custom built DUX of 14 feet long. Used a 30 hp Merc (strong runner) and did 40 mph. Was going to race him with mine but we never got around to it (fortunately for me!)

Slow Jeff, but just you wait!

PS: Did lots of work on the new dink today, all time consuming sanding and fitting for the sheets (plywood). Got a nasty surprise when I discovered that a 7 1/2 foot long boat (without the f-glass bow) has sides over 8 feet long with the curvature--a bit too long for an 8 foot sheet of plywood!
