How would a 39 foot Marinette House Boat handle in the Ocean (some place warm). I could park it some where and live on it when the Winters here in MI get cold.
Most of the house boats I see are in inland rivers and lakes and resavoirs.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can however put her in the Intercoastal Waterway and make runs out on a VERY GOOD DAY between the inlets. I have seen Houseboats even in the Bahamas, that ran over-ON A GOOD DAY---If you look at the charts you will see the ICW runs all the way around Florida and pretty much around the southern states where it is warmer. You can truck the boat much cheaper than running her, how ever not as much fun.. Let me know your plans and I will help guide you if you get closer to a decision. I did this back in 1979 and wish I had done it sooner! Sorrydog

Hey Bob,

You getting old on us Sickleave, I’d of thought U’d be the last one to turn into a “SNOW BIRD" Anxious when the cold up here in MI. chills your ole bones & freezes the fingers, toes, & nose till U can’t feel them anymore. Have U watched the weather channel of late Hell it’s just as cold in FL. as it’s up here in MI. Whistle Take Sorry Dogs advise it’s cheaper to truck it than go by water Oh that’s right if I had your Money I’d Burn mine. Hey the Sorry Dog might cut U a deal on dockage if U don’t abuse his Mermaids to much Shame on you than U & the Dog can sip on that bootle of Capt Morgan he won in a contest I ran a few years back. Applause Hey ifin U do go by water & need a relief Capt. I’d consider applying for the job did it twice before a little experience never hurts. Dang I wonder Think if the Capt. that bought my BigM would consider loaning U the C- Map card with all the way points. Whistle AnyWho put a lot of thought in it before making any rash decisions Think

You'll have bad times, but they'll just wake you up to the good times you weren't paying attention to

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

I too am looking forward to the day when I can venture down the Ten Tom and winter on the Gulf. I think at first just the trip down and a stay at a marina within 100 miles of Mobil Bay. In that area the slip prices are lower in winter and go up in summer, it is just the posit further south where the peek season is reversed.

Florida has a waterway down the whole east coast of the state, with many great places to go. If you end up there, I will give you a list of my secret spots. You don't have to go in the ocean at all, not really recommended for a houseboat.

I would avoid the Bahamas. It is very expensive and hard to leave a boat there permanently. You can cross in a houseboat in summer on a good day, but then you may be trapped over there until the following summer. Hurricane season in the Bahamas is no picnic.

I go to the Bahamas, Andros Island, but I don't have a houseboat and I have a friend who lives there, which is a huge advantage.

The west coast of Florida is very nice in winter, with lots of good cruising. Get a cruising guide and pick some spots. I had been going to Sarasota since 1962 but it is crowded and expensive now, you would probably find better cruising further North.

I have been as far west as Biloxi, and personally prefer Florida, but the Gulf Coast offers some nice cruising.
