Hello to all,
I am considering on changing the color scheme from blue to black. Here is my question, I was considering on doing the striping in a good marine grade vinyl instead of painting. Any thought or concerns/advice on this?
Thanks,
Rob

My M has painted stripes and they are a pain when buffing, swirling blue on the white hull as I run the buffer over them. This past summer I had my 24 ft pontoon boat rafted to a 32 sedan M. A couple of wake board boats kept coming by and rocked us badly. When we untied to leave I discovered that the finders had rubbed the vinyl decals and stripes off the pontoon boat. Vinyl might be fine above the rub rail. I hope this helps.

Unless your like FastJeff and have a lot of coffee cans buried around the yard ( so I've heard ) you better get your wallet out for vinyl stripes. Like shamrock says the vinyl will peel off plus it weathers and cracks real bad. I considered it until I started hearing from others and I chose paint. Shamrock; try using finesse on your stripe. It is a very fine compound material.

The thing I have against tape striping is if nicked one has to do a lotta handy work trying to repair it, especially on the booth strap area Brick wall were dingys & dinks have a way of disfiguring the striping
(especially with the Jeffster coming in at 70 mph) Anxious but with paint the nicks, & chips can easily be touched up in the off season when on the hard with the left over paint. Anxious

Hmmm..when I had the boat painted 11 years ago, the painter talked me into putting on a 3/8" reflective vinyl stripe just above the water line for added nighttime visibility. It's still there. Still reflective

I believe It's a personal choice , if you use the boat as a condo and just cruise every now then either one well work i'm sure. As for me, i prefer the paint like Norm said. Always have a couple of boats hooked to us, large and smaller; no matter how many fenders , will end up with some scrapes and dings. Brewskies don't help either. Power buffing wheels never showed me anything that looked good on a paint job, always swirls left. No matter what you decide will probable last you awhile. Hell ,they want $ 8.00 a FT. just to paint the stripes here at our marina. God knows mine needs a paint job, but thats whats not next.

Why not? That's how ASCAR is "painting" their race cars now--it's all a giant vinyl decal!

If you are changing your color anyways, vinyl gives you the option of ripping it off easily (no mess) and trying a new color... or multiple! Allways gotta love options!
