Exhaust hoses

I noticed this spring when cleaning any working in my engine compartment that there were 3/4 inch nylon straps coming from the deck down to the exhaust hoses for support. Some were broke and just hanging there and others were missing. I noticed when the boat was running it would blow out water every so often and do this over and over. My thinking is these straps need to be there to keep sags so the water drains out by gravity and doesn't backup like this?
Any thoughts or concerns would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Thanks! Your thoughts are very possible.

Had some water get into one of the motors, twice, late in the year. Might be a broken strap. I'll check mine next trip to the boat.

This thread is interesting to me, I know that mine has some webbing straps holding the mufflers and that they specifically at rest are running up hill toward the rear and it seems as though they are set up to hold some certain amount of water that would more readily drain if they were set up to provide constant fall from the "Y" connectors all the way to the tail pipes and exits.

My buddy has a Chris Craft with 427 fords and the identical part# mufflers and his boat is much growlier and mine is almost silent with the 440's. Aside from the obvious his exhaust system is plumbed to fall all the way as mentioned above, Anyone have any thoughts. My only thought is having the mufflers hold more water should make for quieter operation and a little more back pressure. I was going to experiment with this in the spring. In fact I have bought straight pipes to put in place of the mufflers just for fun to see what it does and sounds like. .125 wall aluminum. We got them for his 427's too.............

Ok Jeff, You got me thinking. I could hook up 2 linier actuators up to the
muffers to raise and lower them to tune the sound.
I hate winters. We set around and think up the crazy projects. In the summer we are too busy enjoying the boat to do anything. I'll say I do that as a winter project, Then it't too cold. How many days to warm weather?

Mufflers?.. all I have is hose going from the engine to the transom, and yeah, it is loud.

So.... where can I find some of these mufflers? How well do they work? Will I be able to hear a pin drop at WOT?

Bosco, I know i have them on my boat. Not sure if they are resonators or mufflers but they quiet the boat a bit. Still make a throat'y sound which sounds great. Got a name on them, but can't remember till i look. I'm sure there not hard to find though.

I love the rumble sound of a big block V8 at idle, however I am not a fan of the fountain or cigarette type boats with open exhaust that come into the cove and rattle the windows of my M. In some of the coves that have step ridges rising from the lake it seams that it amplifies the sound. You have to love the rumble.

"Thunder Bird I" got its name cause it exhausted from high on the transom with no room for a muffler.
All conversations came to a halt when the 4 barrels kicked in.

Norm,
My last boat was a Cigarette and I truly miss the rumble and the speed . But with that said I really like not to have to craw into use the restroom or go to bed.

PS: I always turned them off when going into a cove or a marina.
