I am thinking about spring, and the fluid changes. I need help deciding which Oil Changer pump/bucket to purchase? Any recommendations good or bad? Checking reviews on line so far has been inconclusive.

I've got one that you pump up for the vacume and pulls through the dipstick or where it attaches to the block. Will remove about 5 qts. at a time, but kind of messy and not real impressed with it. I believe they make some that pump with a motor . Theres a venders list here on the fourm that can probably help. I'm sure you will get plenty of help from the members. Check the Dock Store at the marina ; and see if they got one. Like most marinas around here they will use West Marine.

Your right Karl, i stand corrected on the pan. Mark

That's a slick setup, Norm, but will only work for 1987 and later.
I've seen 1987 Marinettes with both styles of Chrysler's.

The earlier dip tubes go into the the block at the top, unfortunately.
On mine I have to remove the tube and take trim tab hose and weasel it in, down and around the bottom of the pan. Its a pain and almost never get it all out.

I use a little impeller pump mounted on a bucket. The pump works well but the rubber impeller does not hold up. I suppose the dirty oil destroys it over time.

Search Google for oil change pumps and oil change pump reviews.

Here is the one I have used for the past 6 years. No hassle and works well. I use it on my boats and other small engines etc.

The 6.9 qt model is the one I use. It actually does not hold 6.9 qts holds about 3/4 of a qt less. I remove the dipstick tube and then I can get the small hose all the way to rear of pan.

Here is another source Wholesale Marine. I have used these folks for bottom paint and have had excellent service from them.
I notice they now offer a larger model over 14 qts.

P.S. It is virtually mess free. My big pail with Jabsco pump on it is a pain in the.

I made up a rig using one of those old, now illegal propane tanks (which you can get for free). A few pipe fittings and two hoses and away I go, using one engine as my vacuum pump as it sucks the oil out of the other one. I then switch engines and do the other one. Works slick and, since the drain oil is inside the tank, there's no mess.

Got more info if you want to build one.

Been using the Big Boy Topside vacuum rig with a thin tube that goes into the dipstick. DOn't know how the other units operate, but to create the vacuum one must pull the pump handle up which is tougher than pushing down on the handle (if there is a model that does that). It gets out 4 of the 6 qts but I would imagine that figure would increase if the tube penetrated further into the oil pan. $69 at West Marine.

I just ordered the Jabsco. , besides efficient extraction it has revers cycle to make it easier to unload the bucket. Just flip the switch and let the oil pump out. The link appears to be the best price.

I have uesed the Jabsco pumps for many years. A word of caution. Use metal hose clamps on all the exit connections. The pumps develop about 20 psi pressure. If the hose slips apart while emptying, it makes a mess. Oil shoots everywhere in small droplets. Don't ask how I know this.
