Those rats in Washington--and their agri-business lobbyist buddies--just agreed to make "evil-nol" even more evil: We should see 15 % within a few months.

Stupid, wasteful, inefficient, and possibly more polluting, but what hell: pockets are already being lined.

Maybe I'm a bit altruistic I just thought of burning people food, when people are starving, to run our cars seemed warped. Hope they don't figure a way to make gas out of sirlion.

Joe's argument citing "burning people food when people are starving" is an excellent one. Using corn for ethanol has driven up food prices, making it (food) less affordable where folks are desparate. Jeff: don't blame "Washington", though. That's a cliche. How about looking back at the heartland where grower interests see better profits by burning food in the fuel tank. Those decisions are made way out in the prairies.

I toured a Chinese girl on the dairy farm and I asked her if they had these farms in China?

She replied that what we are feeding the cows, a mixture of corn and hay silage with corn meal mixed in is what they feed people in China.

We would be better off if we exported the feed grains than using them for our fuel since we burn up a lot of fuel for plowing, planting , fertilizing, harvesting, transporting and processing.

What is particularly annoying is that we are paying huge bux for ethanol AND providing almost $10,000,000,000 in direct subsidies to corn growers, and getting no benefit. We could buy ethanol a lot cheaper from Brazil, where it is made more efficiently from sugar cane, and burn it if we want. Rum, not moonshine.

What I don't understand is how old Al gets blamed for this. Al is an ass. But the corn ethanol program and the "agri-business" lobby are all elephants. They do have the money to hire an ass when they need one.

Ethanol and methanol are good fuels. They were the preferred racing fuels in the teens and twenties. Alcohol fires can be put out with water, a huge advantage on a boat. But the flame is invisible, a big safety problem and not much of a crowd-pleaser at the tracks.

I ran methanol (camping stove fuel) in my Royal Enfield motorcycle back in '73 when it was hard to get gas. The bike came with the conversion kit: removable spacers under the cylinders and replacement jets with huge holes. It ran like a scalded cat at 14:1 compression and only slightly poorer mileage than with gas, thanks to the added efficiency. Nasty to kick start, tho.

Why can't they sell pure methanol (or E100) as a separate grade? Then, if you wanted to run it, you could convert your engine to use it properly and give up nothing. This business of sneaking it into gasoline is stupid, stupid, stupid. We need to elect more engineers and fewer lawyers.

If the price of agriculture crops would be priced equal to the price of oil only to the OPEC
nations we’d surely see oil prices drop. Tell them eat & drink their oil. Oh hell we can’t do that our politicians are in the oil co. back pockets. Where else can they raise $$$$ for their campaign war chests to bore us with their mud slinging ads on T V, radio, etc.

Less power for our Boats...more problems for our boats, more fuel consumption for our boats... and the marinas will sell it for the inflated prices they did when it was pure gasoline. What a RIP!

What we really need is a system in which ALL politicians are required to spent only tax money to get elected. Now, before you rush out and get a rope (for my neck) let me explain:

1. Election campaigns would, by law, be very short--a few months for the presidency, and even less for the other offices.

2. The amount of spending would be tightly controlled and drastically reduced--the Dems are raising a BILLION bucks to put No-bama back on his throne.

3. ANY campaign cash received from any other source other than as stated above would be treated as what it is: bribery. The recipient AND the briber would go to jail.

The Fastjeff Election Reform would virtually eliminate lobbying. Why? Since the special interests don't get anything in exchange for their bribes, these rats would no longer be funded and go back home where they belong.

Finally, there would be NO pension for Congressmen. Go there, do your job, serve only a few terms, then go back home to the Real World. That's how it was originally, before politics became a life long profession.

If we are going to give the farmland owners money, just give it to them. The oil coming out of North Dakota now will make up any loss of ethanol.

Pfhlaw - "more engineers and fewer lawyers": The last engineer in the White House was Jimmy Carter. He set up programs to encourage fuel efficiency and support alternative sources, even putting solar cells (symbolically) on the White House roof. We would be in better shape today if we had continued those programs. Sadly, he failed in other areas. Mr. Reagan dismantled all alternative energy and fuel efficiency programs, in the name of reducing government. He even spent money to (symbolically) remove the solar cells from the White House roof. Now, we wish we had alternative fuels that make sense, and cars that get 40 mpg.

FastJeff - I like your program! The Supreme Court's bright idea to allow unlimited anonymous corporate campaign donations because it's "free speech" makes bribery unlimited and unaccountable. The court has been moving toward recognizing a corporation as a citizen with full rights. Maybe they'll get the right to vote. They already have the right to buy elections.

Interestingly, when I was a government employee (for a couple of years) I could only accept a gift if it was worth less than $20. But a congressman can take millions.....

The girl came from a poor mountain village in the interior of China. Her village payed for her education at the University of Buffalo, where she married another student. They had to return to China as she had an obligation to the people of her village to teach there for two years. They returned to the USA after her husband learned to speak all Chinese dialects and they are now working for the Federal Government. It is interesting to know that there are more students studying the English lanquage in China now than in the USA. Soon your grandchildren will become the "coolies" the way Washington is running things.

Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay

Packers! The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon thus

Earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. By doing so, they

Saved the Hard-Working, Red Blooded, Taxpaying Americans literally

Several million dollars of tax money. How you say? Simple... We were told

That if the Chicago Bears had won that President Obama (and probably his

Family) would be attending the Super Bowl to cheer on his hometown team.

Since the Bears lost...the President won't be attending. The money saved

From not using Air Force 1, the limosines, all the additional security,

And let's not forget Michelle Obama's entourage, is literally several

Million dollars! Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay

Packers at the Super Bowl to show them our gratitude. Oh...and let's not

Forget to thank Chicago Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler for his role in the

Packer's

Success! With that said...let's circulate this email to everyone we know

So they can understand why they should cheer for America's team...the

Green Bay Packers!
