Rob, I think the site is a little antiquated . I use to use Shrink Pic which could reduce a pic to.. 2KB ; and still will not take the download. Went to another program which has now not been accepted by the site. It looks like the site wants you to use photobucket only. Guess thats going to be the only choice?? Going to download another program , will see if the site will accept. Will post if it works.

I thought the last two would have been sales literature type stuff in the day. I liked them two, I loaned my Nikon to a buddy and was the first to leave the raft up that Sunday afternoon last fall, so a picture and fly by was in order.

I boat alone on occasion and the " Bridge is to Far From the Fridge ",

Update,
I pulled the carbs off today and brought them home. After further examination I have carter carbs, not sure if that's good or bad? I tore down the first one and wow their was a great deal of crap in there I don't know how it ran at all. Where is the most reasonable place to order rebuild kits for these?
Thanks in advance!

Rob:

I'm gonna give you some really good advise: Buy two, new Edelbrock 1409 marine carbs and toss those old Carters out! You'll be far better off in the end. Trust me! The Edelbrocks get better gas mileage and don't backfire if you open the throttle a bit too fast (damn little fast!)

I bought one of mine on Amazon.com (believe it or not), but there are some good deals out there if you keep looking.

Jeff,

Is there a telltale way of identifying the make and/or model of a carb while it's still mounted on the engine? If so, how so?

Still learning and the current list of "to do" before spring is long enough. I'm sold on the idea of Edelbrock carbs if they will offer better gas mileage (and with higher bucks for gas, the initial cost / payback period / and savings are a definite concern).

The Eldelbrock's are the answer to the problem ' the gas mileage will be far better than the old carbs by some. Mine were old AFB's. Have had them on for the past summer and would not swap for anything else. Still use the old point system and can't complain. Price wise i got the best deal from , guess what , Auto Zone than any other site or place. Please check all sites and auto parts stores . Mine came directly from the factory ; to all the sites that said they had them but when called there was a 3 week lag or more on getting them, they most likely don't have them on hand. I'm happy.

I love my original AFB's, If they just seemed a bit dirty just wash them out and replace the air horn gasket, you can order a 6 pack of them from JEGS for less that 10 dollars. Won't cost much to try. If you end up needing new carbs then spend the dough.....

Guys,
After further thought and consideration I plan on rebuilding them. I have ordered rebuild kits and will be completing this project in the coming weeks. I truly appreciate the great advice and will plan on ordering new carbs for next season. I did mention I have five kids right???? Lol
Thank you!

Got my 1409s from National Carburetors http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/marine/fourbarreledelbrock.aspx

National Carburetors sells on Ebay with better deals sometimes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EDELBROCK-1409-MARINE-600-CFM-ELECTRIC-CHOKE-4-BARREL-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem45f817ca68QQitemZ300515052136QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=1409+edelbrock&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I bought the remanufactured from National. Cost about $500 for both. Jeff gave me good advice a few months ago....trash those Carters...the walls become porous. Jeff said he rebuild his several times before giving up and trashing them. Hopefully your rebuild goes well. Let us know how they run after rebuild.
