Fellow Aluminites,
My new aluminum "girlfriend" tested our relationship yesterday. I made the discovery of a hole in my aluminum black water holding tank last week. Replacement Time, been there and done that with holding tanks in the past. Well I then realized it's placement meant removing the fuel tank, (1) 194 gallon fuel tank. Have also done fuel tank removals in the past. This baby after being pumped out with approx. 15 gal. of 9 year old "something" in the tank upon inspection look great inside and out. Yeah! Next the holding tank. After 2 hours of "unshoehorning" this thing out from under the lower helm station Disaster Struck! The tank was so corroded on the bottom, it literally tore open. Approx. 5 gallons of 9 year old "brown" came spewing to the floor. My friend Roy started up the steps to hurl, I grabbed a rag and put it over my nose and mouth and tried to gather my tools that were in harms way. An hour later with windows open and fans blowing I was able to clean up with lots of water and bleach and my Sears Shop-Vac, (Roy had to go home). Boats of any kind...Gotta Love Em'.

Yuck! What a nightmare.

I hope that doesn't happen to us since we stupidly forgot to pump out our 19 gallon plastic holding tank. I got at least 2 gallons of Pink Stuff in there so far to dilute the 16 or so gallons of, ah, stuff left inside. So far--after a cold spell or two--the tank is holding.

Woah Jeff that's only 10% pink!
I put 4 gallons of the pink in about 10 gal of, uhm the other stuff last year.
I know I live a bit further north than you do but He, He, your getting a taste of real winter this year.
Gotta luv global warming.

North of the 45th.

PS: could you add beer as another thing alu isn't good for? I'm a devoted long neck fan and my daughter tells me they are linking alu cooking utensiles to altimers...not that it would help anyone here to stop using it.

RV's logic says "black water" doesn't freeze unless it's really cold. The Pink Stuff I added should help as well. We'll see (or smell) in the Spring.

It would seem that if black water freezes that padwheel's tank would not have torn and gushed "liquid".. Unless it's not that cold in DE..That's a bummer, man.
