Lots of places use those funny pictures where you have to guess the letters and fill them in correctly, or be bounced off. Could we use something like that? The do-nuts idea sounds pretty good, but don't expect any from me, I am saving up for one of those enhancement/enlargement deals.......

Image verification should stop the bot scripts from filling in bogus info and logging on.

This is the only forum that I use my first name and list my general location and that is only because we are a small, civilized Liar group unlike some of the computer and automotive forums I belong too.

I will never provide anything else. No last name, no hull number etc. If we are ever forced to provide more info on this site, it will all be made up.

It would also be nice to be able to input our email addresses in our profile without using the @. none@none.com = none at none.com. This way the bots cant tell regular text from email. Notice how the link is gone with no @.

I.R.T GB49 thread; this form of site registration has been brought up before. As we know bots are just compter generated; to search the web for open sites like this fourm. GB49 you are right , just need a visual verification or a stupid question like ...What color are my red shoes. Have not found any bots that can read yet .
Site originator ( Yet Another Forum . Net ) should be happy to help with this with are administrator's .

Done! It is really easy to find someone's name and location anyway.

Thanks to Doc and the rest of the crew for fighting the pirates.

While I have no problem posting name and state since I have done that already; how does that stop spam?

Obviously it has no apparent effect to limit the problem?

I guess the only way would be a detailed info (like internet shopping sites) and then only way in would be through registration and password to access the posts archives etc.

By doing that that would certainly make it more difficult for spammers. They would not be able to view any of the info without registering first. Currently I am assuming they cruise the site then register with false ID info etc.

Those that wanted to spam still would get in right?

Take a look at the edit profile page. Where Occupation was is now a boat info field. There is also location. We should not approve anyone to post who does not add both.

It makes no difference what you require in the profile if you are not able to get in and edit the darn thing.
I have spent the last hr trying to edit mine to comply and when I hit save it opens an error page so I have no idea if it has been entered or not so I am assuming it made the changes since I cannot get it to go any further.

Frustrated with this program at the moment!
