Took some pics after work, Kellogg Ave where Tucker Boat builder used to be, in front of Four Seasons and along the little Miami River where my M is, good thing it floats. It's going to 56' around Sunday, Flood stage is 52'.

Rob,
Liked the pics ; brought back memorys of the area. Use to flood every year untill they put the new dams in. Was raised in Mt. Carmel and spent most of the time on the river working a Paddle Wheel Harbor. Was sold to Four Seasons and now is a restaurant on the Kentucky side across from Cincinnati.

Whoa! Better set some anchors on that one on the hard! Hate to see it float away.

How do you guys tie off your boats in a flood so the mooring lines don't pull the dock up or your boat down?

Sunset Seeker's on the hard on blocks well above the river, but it's gettin' closer. Manhattan Harbour's folks say it'd need to get to 68' before I'd have to worry. Have been down to the boat to bail out the "bathtubs" that happen when the (ill placed) tarp doesn't shed water and it starts to puddle. Puddle grows and needs to be siphoned off. Next year I'll know better when she goes into hibernation. At least I'm only 40 minutes away on the northside of Cincy (or closer when I'm working near downtown).

In a wierd sort of way it's interesting when the river floods...
... a lot more area to explore in a boat! Liar

Jim, I remember that most of the old brigdes were metal grating at lower little Miami Salem RD, Newtown and up off of Round bottom RD., a back road from mt. Carmel rd. to Milford. The old Paddel Wheel Harbor as at the end of 8 Mile Rd. I my opinion the WPA helped thousands of americans during the depression and as many years later their fine work; made me a very nice livelihood for my family.T.V.A. I need to get back up this summer if not just to reminisce and see the changes.

Rob,
Haven't been to Mt Carmel in a few years .You never forget all the old names and places that you were around as a kid. Will for sure check out the Mt. Carmel Beer Brewery ; not going to pass up a beer in my old area. As far as Coney Island and Sunlite pool , ton's of summers there.
Glad everythings safe.

I guess too much rain and snow your way not that we didn't get our share here in Tn.The river is up a tad for is time of year ,and a little trashy . If i remember right ; is not the record for flood stage, 68 or maybe 72ft? Lets hope river goes down and everyone can start to get ready for the season.

If we replaced all our welfare dollars with a new WPA program it would go a long way towards getting our books balanced. People would have jobs and could be proud of the wage they brought home because they worked for it, rather than looking at the money as an entitlement. Why are you entitled to it?

Maybe it's already in the works ;)

Americans With No Abilities Act
Washington , DC - Congress is considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans: The Americans With No Abilities Act.
(AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition.
'Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,' said California Senator Barbara Boxer. 'We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing.'
In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance. Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U.S. employer of Persons of Inability.
Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against the Inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement 'warehouse' stores (65%).. At the state government level, the Department of Motor Vehicles also has an excellent record of hiring Persons of Inability (a whopping 83%).
Under The Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million 'middle man' positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance.
Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most inept employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to small and medium-sized businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires.
Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the Non-abled, banning, for example, discriminatory interview questions such as, 'Do you have any skills or experience that relate to this job?'
'As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them,' said Ken Miller, who lost his position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint , Michigan , due to his inability to remember 'rightey tightey, lefty loosey.' 'This new law should be real good for people like me,' Miller added. With the passage of this bill, Miller and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL): 'As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every American with no abilities.. It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing so.'

Very funny. But I have a bone to pick with the statement that "The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions..."

I have worked for a number of corporations and none of them seemed to need a substantial tax break to promote a Person of Inability into middle-management. In fact, that condition appears to be a prerequisite.
