My 1980 32' sedan has a grass wallpaper in the V berth, I have been every where looking for a replacement, the pattern runs vertical and appears to be 8' wide. I can not find a seam and most wall paper is 20" to 36" wide. I also have not found a perfect match, I have peeled the paper off every ply execpt one, I have got 95% of the meldew and filth off . My next though is to use contact adhesive and attach paper and ply to a new sheet of 1/4 plywood making a thicker panel but one that matches. Does anyone have any input on paper or procedure thanks.BigM

You can buy 4 X 8 with various stuff already on it, and this might be a good way to go. I was going to do that, but I decided instead to get ply with a good grain on one side and finish it in clear. It looks nice, but is kind of dark and I might paint it...

I'm planning on using fiberglass panels (the smooth side) and run horizontal wooden battens leaving about 50% of the fiberglass showing.

On that Vee bert paneling job use the old panel a pattern there’s a arc at the top. If U don’t cut arc there’ll B about a 1" 1-1/2" gap Eh? Ya I screwed up a $20 Brick wall

I know what you mean about the grasscloth. I replaced all the panels in my 28 because I am o/c about mold and mildew and the panels were getting funky. Using the old panels as templates, I cut new ones from luan, back-primed them and glued thin white plastic sheets (about 0.30 if memory serves) to them to serve as the inside surface. It was a big job, but the inside of the boat looks much nicer (ask Stan) and the panels should remain mildew-free for a long time. If i had to do it over again (but why would I do that?), I'd use the stiffer plastic panels (say about 0.90). It is a lot of work, but none of it is tedious.

Hope this helps.

Eh? "Does anyone have any input on paper or procedure thanks."

I am with Norm. That stuff they used in the V berth is crap. Viynl wallpaper over plywood, what were they thinking? This only collects moisture and mildew and after twenty years its doneSick .Carefully remove the old panel and use it for a template. Home Depot sells 1/4"x 4'x8' smooth white shower board and all so a fiberglass 4x8 sheet that has some texture to it. [The fiberglass sheet is thin you would probably have to glue it to a plywood backer.] I used the white shower board, make sure that there is insulation between the board and the hull. They also sell a product that is an aluminum foil sandwich and it comes in a roll. Think

thank you all for the input. I have removed the paper from all but one ply and have them for templates. last year I replaced the walls, windows ,and floors in my saloon. I did use the beige color FRP board for my walls smooth side out against newly stained and finshed dark mahogany, it looks grrreat. I might be able to pull that off and still and have that factory look. I have also insulated the ceiling in the v berth so far and thinking about the wall of the v berth thanks againWhistle Whistle

Possibly you are thinking of Reflectix, available from Lowes, which is what I used as insulation behind all my interior panels.

Bill,

That stuff works great after I applied it, it kept the BigM 10/15 degrees cooooler on those rare 85* 90* days we get in the frozen tundra (MI) all U have to do is remove the panels tape it loosly to the ribs replace the the panels it was under $100 to do the whole Saloon (Salon) over head bulkheads plus had some left over to do 2 hatch covers of the 3 never got to doing the one under the settee works great as a sound reduction too Applause AnyWho What's your launch date Think

I don’t believe it has a R value? It works by reflecting. I tested it with a laser temp gun & on the sunny side of the temp was like 10* 15* hotter than on the shaded side, Hence their product name Reflectix, Think

Norm & friends...actually the stuff does have an R value, according to the Reflectix web site...depending on where and how it's used, that value is .68 (very small) to 4.55 (much better). Here's the link with the faq: http://www.reflectixinc.com/basepage.asp?PageIndex=730

Thanks Joel,After read their article that stuff is even better than I thought. Didn't know it was a mold preventive also. All I know is it worked really good on keeping down temp down on the boat on hot sunny days Applause
