We just came across a BigM that we welded a new shaft tube in because there is No Galvanic system on the boat and it rotted out , fortunatly we discovered the problem while repacking the shafts. A little help please. Recommendation on a good system to install on a 28 express. and location for purchasing. I have some suppliers but would like to hear feedback from you guys, Thanks

You mean a shaft isolator? Marinette Yachts still sells the stock isolator (I believe) or you can buy one of those shaft saver deals that do it as well.

Semens is still making the orig. CAPAC unit. Also Zincs.com also offers a portable monitor.

The fact is does not have a monitor installed is NOT the cause of the corrosion.

One must investigate: Isolation, Anodes, Etc.

The Capac unit only is a monitor.

They did build an Impressed Corrosion CAPAC system that was/is suppose to be adjustable to help control galvanic corrosion. Most were disconnected due to over or underprotection concerns. Roamer Yachts used them for years and many caused more problems than they solved.

There are other companies that now build more sophisticated Impressed systems a google search will find most of them.

Best of Luck,

dave

Check to make sure that the galvanic isolator between the green shore power and the hull is working. If you have an isolation transformer, you don't need one and you can just not hook up the green from the shorepower. Check for high resistance between the shafts and the hull, and the rudders and the hull. the trim tabs should also be isolated, and most aren't. buy a portable capac because its cheaper and you won't have the pain of dealing with the sensor everytime the hull is getting painted.
