Needing info on spring replacement for original 318 electronic distributors. I can't seem to find anyone that sells them locally at the parts stores....

I'm thinking the mechanical advance is not working properly because when running slowly up to 2000 or so rpm, the port engine starts acting up and backfiring through the carb (edelbrock). Pulled the distributor and found the rusty springs. Also thought about the "can" fuel filters...ordered new ones from Hurricanes and the new one for the port engine is leaking...still working that one.

Thought about the angle of the engines also when underway however the angle should be correct as the both engines have the original intakes with proper angle. Shouldn't be starving for gas based on this.

Anyway, if anyone has any leads on replacement springs for the original distributors would be greatly appreciated.

Also any thought on adding fuel/water seperator kits - would one suffice or should I use two, one for each engine?

Thanks in advance.

You were at the "HURRICANE SITE" [mi29015 Mallory Advance Springs $73.00]Click on "IGNITION PARTS" and go 1/2 way down the page.
Dancing Call and talk to Dave, Very knowigble person when it comes to old Chryslers.

What I did when I replaced my springs after I removed all the rust and gunk out of the distributor was spay the inside and springs with a product from LOCTITE CORP, it is called spray anti-sieze. Goes on wet and thin and retards rust. I did mine about five years ago and they still look new. NOTE: Do this before you reinstall the electronic ignition module and plate. You can go to any good auto supply store to purchase.

Also it seems every time I change one of those can filters up by the carb. I have a hard time stopping the drips. I end up tightening the byjesus out of those poor little fittings.
I am on my last set of can filters. I have purchased new in line filters to replace the cans, which are getting very expensive and harder to find. MY NEW ONES REQUIRE CUTTING OFF THE FERRULES AND INSTALLING 5/16" RUBBER FUEL LINE [coast gaurd approved] with double worm clamps.Think Got the idea from fastjeffEh?
Hope this helps

Well, I decided to go ahead and purchase two Pertronix Flamethrower Marine D241801 distributors and two 45kv 45111 coils. I purchased from autopartsdealer.com
Free shipping and excellent prices for those that are interested.

Looks like a great price. Keep us posted on how they install and perform.
Might be a real solution to our old electronic Dist.

Will do Dave; coils are supposed to be here today and the distributors will be here one day next week. Hope to install next Friday or Saturday and do a test run.

As an aside....my leaking fuel filter canister that I purchased from Hurricane's will be replaced with a new one. I spoke to Dave at Hurricane's via email and stated that another customer had a similar problem. On the inlet side of the filter, the threads were not machined all the way down which kept the fuel line from seating against inverted flare. Anyway Dave and company is sending me a new one on or about Monday.

High regards to Dave at Hurricane's.

I'll post later in the week as to how everything goes.

Happy Easter all!

I think you made a good call on the Pertronix dist. I have the same ones I'm about to install within a few weeks. No way I would pay $80 for springs for the old set up. You can get them much cheaper. I have a guy in Memphis that has a distributor machine and sets up all the motor heads around town. He can rebuild original distributors much cheaper. We had a long discussion and he told me he likes the old prestolite distributors and if were him he would rebuild the old distributors. I already ordered my Pertronix so I will install them and keep my old ones just incase.

Still no distributors! I am starting to get frustrated with Autopartsdealer.com
I have contacted them twice and each time they state that they will send an email with an updated shipment date.
The last update I got stated the distributors would be shipped by May 2. This has not happened as of this writing.
I will keep you posted.
