The old(mild steel) rudders are out, laying on the ground- seized around the bronze packing gland ,so I had to cut them in two. Now I have a fresh pair of Stainless rudders, hot off the fab table. I will be replacing the plastic rudder bearings also. It appears that the plastic is simply held in position by the close tolerance if the OD fit? Or is there a lip that keeps the rudder bearing from falling out and to the bottom of the lake? Corrosion- do I attach zinc to the stainless rudder or the aluminum alloy that is used on marinette boats? I have enjoyed this site and all the info that it's members have given me.

Normally you will find one or two set screws that help hold the bearing. Check out the archives... Jeff has a detailed and EXCELLENT instructions on the complete removal and installation of new rudder bearings. http://fastjeff.tripod.com/ Repair Tricks and Techniques for Marinettes Save Baoting, Dave None
