Domino, lots of folk who know more than I say it doesn't matter "they will flip the right way when you crank the engine". I've never trusted that theory and always determine which way the pump is turning and insert the impller with the blades positioned in the right direction before replacing the pump cover. I use some sort of lubricant to help the blades withstand a dry start-up. I think it also helps produce a better prime for the pump. I use vaseline, but it is said to deteriorate the impeller blades; so far it doesn't seem to have made a significant difference for me.

Al,

Take J Hemps advice make sure the vanes R in the right direction best way to do that is take a pic @ 83 yr I need them cause "CRS has set in" "Can't Remember $hit" Whistle with cover off than after U remove the old one first thing U wantta do is back flush the tranny cooler than use a hose clap & snug it up a bit spin the vanes in the right direction than tighten up on the clamp have 1/16"th / 1/8"th clearance don’t forget the key I did once dah F -it up Brick wall
with the cost of implores not & saying serious Brewski time. Now J H Vaseline might B good but I use dish washer soap it lubs well on dry starts plus on winterizing I take the inlet hose off squirts in there plus U can see if the pumps working right start eng. look over the stern if U have soap suds it’s working. Walla Close hatch put tools away & it’s time for a Brewski Dancing

You'll have bad times, but they'll just wake you up to the good times you weren't paying attention to

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
