I was wondering if anyone knew what to use on sumbrella covered cushions to remove stains? I have some nice interior cabin cushions that need some spot removal. I also have a few oil spots that need to be removed. What are you guys using these days?
Thanks

The Sunbrella people have cleanup instructions on their web site. They involve using chlorine bleach = based products. Yes...you read that right. Apparently, the bleach doesn't bother Sunbrella. I may even have posted those instructions on this site sevl yrs ago -- you should try to search for them.

I've had good luck cleaning car upholstery with lacquer thinner and a white rag. Dab the thinner on the spot then rub like crazy. It's similar to dry cleaning.

I got all my boat cushions cleaned by a local professional that does my home carpets. He steamed them and scotch guarded all of them for two boats. I took all of them over to his shop ($80). If I was going to store them in the boat or storage unit for the winter I would use that sticky plastic sheeting that comes on a roll. He spot cleaned off some oil spots but some tar stains just wouldn't lift out. I made a big mistake on a small sail boat when I tried DIY. I cut off the upholstery buttons, unzipped the covers and washed them in the washing machine. I now have to reinstall dozens of buttons. They come off way easier than they go back on. Also I broke 2 zippers. That cost me $65. Guess what, I don't know how to sew in zippers. I do know a good pro so from now on I will use him.

To Yoop & Others,

If U contemplate on ever take your cushion covers off taking off the buttons is fairly easly done with a croctching (sp) needle an what ever U do DON’T cut the cord that holds them to each
other, they unhook by a small plastic snap hook back up the same way. If I could post a video
that I made of the re dyeing of all cushions & Vee berth cover. If anyone is interested P M me
your email Anxious I’ll try to post a few pix but I’ve been having complication down sizing. As “Riley would say what A revolting development” Brick wall Nope still can't upload the Pix d'oh! Whistle

You might try something like this for oil stains: http://microbes.wonderchem.com/

I used a similar product with some success a few years ago. Ouch, the memory must be going!
