I am still looking for a way to soften the rubber seal on this hatch cover. It has hardened and will not seal out rain water. can anyone tell me what I should do as the manfacturer of my hatch cover is out of buisness as far as I know.

Was recommended here, so I tried foam backer rod. Seems to work fine. Think I used half inch, glued it in with silicone caulk and lightly closed the hatch to hold it in place until caulk cured. Get it at any lumber yard, get more than you think you need, it will use more than you expect. Easy quick and not expensive.Do it when you have a tube of silicone open for another job and you will wish that everything was this easy. Good luck! Ed

I think I was the one who recommended foam backer rod, but if memory serves I used 3/4" diameter rod. It has held up for a year, and is cheap and easy enough that it doesn't have to last forever.

I believe that you can get backer rod at Home Depot or Lowes, or any place that carries drywall supplies. Don't get 3/4 on my say-so, I believe I may have used half inch.
