My 1" prop shaft shaft flange is drilled for 4 setscrews and lock nuts, only 2 of which are opposed. Should I use only those 2 for balance purposes?

Dave: This setup has jamb nuts but the screws are not drilled for wire. can I use Nylock nuts or should I drill the set screws to acomodate wire? I appreciate your info.

Jam nuts are fine they have obviously done their job for over 45 years!

I would suggest you check them after you have run a few hrs to make sure they are set.

The more common problem is getting a darn flange off a shaft!

Many are converted to split flanges after a battle and often cutting a shaft and replacing. A real pain!

I agree with Bdave, remove the set screw completely so as not to drag the screws across the shaft.....voice of experience.... and I would recomend wiring too. This is how my boat came. JAM
